All right. It seems like Space Zelda is recieving alot of heat. Understandable. Here's another option: Modern Zelda. Hyrule's tech matches our own. Much less likely, but hey, why not?
Because Link would have a hard time blocking bullets.
Doesn't seem to bother Travis Touchdown.
Travis Touchdown has an exo-skelleton made of pure awesomeness, so he does not need to block bullets or avoid landmines...

I don't understand people who say that franchises like the Legend of Zelda, Mario, and Metroid need to die. Take Zelda for instance. It's an adventure game with continually interesting spatial awareness puzzles. That's all. LoZ is just basically a brand name saying that "this game will be very good." Same with Mario, only it's saying "this platformer will be very good"

You know why Nintendo uses the same characters over and over? Because if they don't, nobody buys the damn game. Remember Zack and Wiki? Excellent game, but nobody bought it because it was different. Nintendo has absolutely no motivation to make different characters, when they can take the same cash cows and give them expansion packs.

And you know what? I don't mind it. Games aren't books, and do not need to possess a thought-provoking, original story. They are, at best, an interesting distraction from real life. I've never been moved by the story of a video game, and likely never will be.

Just because Mario goes into space does not mean that every other Nintendo franchise is supposed to.

I think Link's sword and tunic would look out of place in a space setting.

I'd prefer it if they kept to the basics, but make the game world huge and added more stuff.

SPace is just an overused theme. There should be a Zelda where you get to kill terrorists. After all, it seems every villian that is introduced is a friggin terrorist now.

Chris: She's just a terrorist (talking about Excella.)

Mercs, Ao2, random US military based games, 50 Cent: Innocent Blood on the Sand, terrorists are invading our video games! Someone tell the President!

I agree with you. The Zelda series, as well as the other Nintendo faves, remain similar because that is what people want. It is what people buy. People fear changes in the Zelda series, Zelda 2 and Wind Waker proved that much. Both were good games, but people immediately thought, "Side-Scrolling? Sailing? TEH GAEY!".

I enjoy Nintendo's games, regardless of whether they change or not, because, you know what? It's still fun.

I honestly don't see a problem with a modern day zelda but i think they should do the 1800s first, and have a whole agrarian vs industrialist argument. Nintendo already proved they can get serious if they want to and Zelda is a pretty hardcore franchise. I don't see why they would not. Hell the Japanese even have a historical point for reference Admiral Perry's trip to japan made them modernize in less than 100 years.

I'm pretty sure Metroid was supposed to be that as people have said already, which is an excellent game series, and why would you ever even want that considering what happened to Jason X, no no this just never happened.

I dunno, sounds kind of interesting. But then again I'm not the kind of guy who holds Zelda precious...

Then you should hope it never gets a space journey haha. Zelda is great the way it is, it does not need to be fired out of a rocket into space marine territory, there's enough games like that.

I like that as well. A modern day world with a fairy tale twist. I mean c'mon guys, just think of all the wackiness and insanity that would unfold if Zelda goes modern or sci-fi.
That's sort of what we're afraid of. :S

REALLY don't think Zelda games will go into space.

More likely it'll have more fantasy settings and thus have odd puzzles and settings that remind you of space. You know, like different dimensions and stuff.

Only Zelda in space should be Zelda on the metroid levels in Super Smash Bros.

No, no one bought Zack and Wiki because the puzzles were designed by retards/sadists. I personally liked that it was different, but the puzzles were fecking impossible to get through on the first try unless you possess second sight, which is weak game design in my opinion. (Also, Z&W was a Capcom title, not Nintendo.)

I guess in principle it's no different from Sega beating the Sonic horse to death. Problem is, that doesn't make it right. I love the LoZ games, but once you strip out all the gimmicky crap they keep trying to cram into the gameplay, the story itself is the same bleeding thing every time. There are plenty of gamers like me for whom the story is at least as important as the gameplay mechanics, and we're a little confused as to why Nintendo insists on using different trappings to tell the same story.

All I want from the next Zelda is some harder bosses (not impossible, just not so damn easy as Twilight Princess bosses were), and some actual dueling style swordfighting (or more secret skills, and put the counter back in! I loved that in WW).counterparry made these easy even 3 on 1 in WW), and it's a lot more fun then just beating up on bullblins and bokoblins who die in 2 or 3 shots.

More of the duels would be great in the next Zelda, but I don't think space is neccessary at this point. It's medieval-fantasy-action-adventure, not sci-fi.
