Hey all, I'm no fool but I'd like to know if you think this set up is worth it. Been looking at a few rigs recently and have looked at Intel i5's, i7's and AMD Phenom x 4 965's. The graphics card I want is a an ATi 5770.

Link to possible computer. [http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/pc/range/pulse.html]

Or this one, it's the same but with an i5.

Second computer. [http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/pc/range/irushpro.html]

I'd love to know if you have a better suggestion.

Hmm. Im not up to date on ATI's. Whats the Nvida equivalent? I would suggest getting the components separately however. Much cheaper.

Do you think the i5 is better then? I looked up that i5 and the amd 965 and they seemed to be almost identical in performance...

Urgh, it's hard to give any advice when I'm looking at prices in Pounds. As always though, I'm going to suggest building your own PC over a pre-made one.

If I had to choose one of these, I'd go irushpro, I did a lot of comparing of the new i cores to the phenoms and the Intel cores come out ahead most of the time. But really I'd suggest getting an i7 920.

Ya I agree with Zing. Building your own means that you can get parts cheaper. You could have an amazing home built one with the money that you are going to spend on the pre-mades.

Well the irushpro has an 8mb cache size for whatever component it is using vs the 2mb cache of the other one

Definitely the irush pro. Have you looked at dinopc.com they have some good deals and im just after ordering my new computer from there:

http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/Gallant-AMD-550-GTS250-94p865.htm

I have added a few upgrades like the 5770 graphics card and the x4 processor

Ahh, thats 2mb per core, so it's 6 overall.

Also, would there be any advantage to using AMD processor with an ATi gpu?

Hey, thanks for the link! They have some really good prices.

I'm looking at this one [http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/Veloce-i5-750-5770-94p763.htm] on there now. When I spec it up to the same as the iRush Pro in my original post, its about £60 cheaper. Unsure whether to get this one or the iRush pro now though, as the makers of the iRush Pro have a shop near me which could come in handy...

I looked at i7's but the performance difference compared to price seemed negligible. :/

The 920 has a very good price/perfomance ratio imo.

You don't need real good hardware for PC games anymore. You can count the overall number of games which are as high in system requirements as Crysis on one hand, and Crysis is a 3 year old game. If you've a real souped up rig, you'll have to do something silly like run three monitors at 2048x1536 in order to get any use out of the additional firepower.

My advice is stick to middle-of-the-road-but-cheap hardware. My usual policy is to hit up the benchmarks on Tom's Hardware and see how high I can go up that chart before the price doubles. I'll usually find something quite effective after the ridiculously upscale parts are out of the way.

1) As pretty much everyone else has said, you'll probably save more by building your own.
2) That said, pretty much every set-up mentioned would run pretty much every game out there.

They are basically the same, tho you'd be better of getting the parts separately, more customization options, you know exactly whats happening in your rig, and you'll save your self quite a bit of money. Tho if you are going to go pre built, out of those 2 i couldn't help you sorry. But i am getting the HD5770 OC edition next week. so much better then that card in those 2 machines.

What's the difference if you'll excuse me seeming dull? :p

The difference between the HD5770 and the HD5770 OC edition? Basically Its just a bit faster with a little more power. (had another look at the stats and i miss read them a little. my bad) so yeah its not a great deal better, but it is still better.

but yeah depending on your price range and your knowledge of computers, it is cheaper (and more satisfying) to build it yourself then to get prebuilt gear.

Is the oc literally just overclocked?

If it's a gaming rig, I'd suggest getting an Nvidia graphics card, as they have never given me any problems.
Back when I had an ATI Radeon (can't even remember the number) there alot of games it wouldn't let me play (The first Halo being one of them as well as Deus Ex). The only issue was my graphics card didn't like the game.
