With 11 million (if my sources are to be believed) players worldwide, 2 expansion packs, seemingly endless content, players claiming to be "addicted" and more still to come: the future looks bright for World of Warcraft. Using our immense gaming knowledge and throbbing, glow-in-the-dark brains, we the gamer community shall on this forum predict the mmorpg's fate.

One day when the game becomes totally obsolete.

Or the Star Wars Galaxies symdrome attacks.

The title's a little misleading, but WoW will die one day. Probably when Mass Effect: MMO comes along. You heard it hear first.

Urr..doubt you going to see one so soon.

Considering that Bioware is doing a KOTOR mmo first. And BW is still finishing ME trilogy....

There are going to be a number of question marks for the game after a while.

The first big contnet expansion, The Burning Crusade, dealt mainly with the Orcs' homeworld, Outland (or Draenor, whichever you prefer), and its final boss, originally thought to be Illidan Stormrage, was Kil'jaeden, a demonlord of the Burning Legion and second-in-command to said Legion, bowing only to its lord, the fallen titan Sargeras.

The second (and current) expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, deals with Northrend and its "leader", the seemingly-omnipotent lord of the dead, the Lich King, Arthas Menethil.

After WotLK, where can the series go? Well there's the ethereal realm of the green dragons, the Emerald Dream. Something has been corrupting the dream for some time to the point of there being four raid bosses in old-world Azeroth called the Dragons of Nightmare, all of them green dragons to add to that. Question is, where would there be a final boss? We don't really KNOW anything about the Emerald Dream except it's where the druids go to strengthen their ties with nature and that something's corrupted. There's also the Maelstrom, where the Well of Eternity imploded and left the Broken Isles, where the last boss could be the queen of the naga, Queen Azshara. Another potential raid out there is the Tomb of Sargeras. But again, what else is there except that?

After those two concepts are worn dry, I really think that might be the end of the game. There's really nothing else in the lore they could try, unless they want to try and create something else. And with the lore of the game already established, sounds a little stupid.

I'm sure WoW isn't going under for quite a while. I play Wow i love it but i'm not an addict. One day tho Blizz WILL run out of ideas for expansion packs but i'm sure that won't be for at least a year, since they are working on a third expansion. i won't go insane if it dies either.I'll just be sad.

A similar topic not a few days ago...
Anyway, eventually official support will end, not any time soon but eventually. As for it actually dieing, unlikely. Many people still play Quake online, as long as a community exists the game won't die.

I doubt any developer is going to make that mistake again. I've never cancelled a subscription so fast.

It depends on which SWG syndrome we're talking about here.

If it pulls a Combat Upgrade, it'll take a hit but keep on going. (I, for one, enjoyed the diversity that the CU brought, but I was a MAJOR MMO noob back then so my opinion may be unfounded).

If it pulls a New Game Experience, it's going to drag itself to the deepest pits of Hell, and it's going to deserve it.

Doubt it, if you want a 3rd person mmorpg, wow is the cheapest and best.
The only thing that will kill WoW is a sequel.
World of Warcraft 2: Screw Everything Else
I humbly suggest this title to Blizzard. xD

EDIT: Also, as for future expansions/sequels, Blizzard are not the type with no imagination, they can make something new that still fits into the lore without screwing everything over.
