Shawn Williams"I'm not, nor will I ever be, someone you're liable to confuse with Rambo. What I experienced during the Invasion of Panama was the tiniest slice of Hell." Shawn Williams, along with his father-in-law, give a veterans' perspective on modern video games.

I thought the bit about video games teaching the mechanics and skill of real combat to be utterly ridiculous. I can't believe the Ranger/West Point Professor could support that idea.

Keck, I was equally appalled at this notion when I first heard it. Sure, it can be used as a tool to get the feel of combat, and it is, but cannot possibly replace the actual drills that the military uses to train soldiers. Try suggesting that the army use only videogames in training, cuz hey, that's way less expensive that using real gear, real ammo and real vehicles. It's not gonna fly.

Not to sidetrack the discussion or anything, but since we've got a nice place for this sort of thing with the shiny new blog and all, I just wanted to give a shout out to Kwip for really surprising me on this one. I've never been able to comment on the articles we publish, until now.

So, Kwip... I always enjoy your articles, especially the sense of humor you usually summon forth. The complete sincerity of this one wasn't what I expected when I saw the byline. Don't get me wrong though, I think it was great. Despite what you so frequently claim, you're quite a good writer :)
