I wonder how important are wargames for countries that haven't got a recent war history. I live in a country that had to fight for its independency, like all countries in North and South America. But that was 200 years ago, and lately we haven't had any kind of militar conflicts. The U.S., on the other hand, has had it's share of conflicts in the last 50 years, provoked or not. That leaves a mark in the people that lives there, for those who were there physically, or for those who are related to them. Having this in mind, wargames for those people have a different meaning.

The rest of us, who haven't been nor lived a war, wargames are just one of the many kinds of games we can play. Do we take them lightly? I don't know. Games are games, that's my point of view. But what does it means for someone who was actually there, in the real thing?

That's a really interesting point, Andrea. I don't tend to be overly interested in war games and movies, except that I've heard the stories from family members. I don't know that the interest would be there if I didn't have that experience. So, I think some interest would drop.

But maybe it's brought back to even by those that are too close to war and don't want to experience it anymore than they already have, let alone in a game?

Good point Andrea - and to take it a little further I wonder if the videogame industry would be so focused on the recreation of these conflicts (particularly WWII) if it weren't for the West's obsession with it, both historically and currently.

But to think that a wargame is nothing more than a game to you is pretty alien to me and, no doubt, many others. Here in the UK we grow up with "People died so you could have this" ringing in our ears! I'm pretty envious of you, to be honest.

Well, I cannot even imagine how it is for europe countries. Talking about having military history... if we had over 200 years here, you people there have thousand... I can understand your feelings.
