Dave Thomas"According to the Chinese calendar, we are finishing up the year of the rooster and heading into the year of the dog. I suggest that for games, 2005 was the year of the vole, or maybe the box turtle." Dave Thomas looks back on the gaming industry of 2005.

Andrea:

I would love to visit SA and find some of those pirated/rare/hybrid NES consoles.

My condolences for the slow gaming down there, but trust me, you haven't missed out on much.

Great essay, totally on the money. The fact that Half-Life 2 was awarded "Best Game" shows how technically minded lameness is dominating the mainstream industry. 2006 is going to be the year the meteor hits and wipes out the dinosaurs.

As a jew myself I'd like to explain the truth behind our Christmass trees. Unlike Christians who, wanting to give eachother presents comercilise a religious festival, we keep our days religous and use your days as a present excuse. Its not just trying to fit in.

And Half-Life 2 was a good game, its not that inovative but its done everything FPS have done: shooting stuff, physics, etc and did them better than any other FPS. Game of the Year is immpossible to define but FPS game of the year is definately half life 2.

P.S. Don't knock Turtles. Turtles don't move because they've cunningly created a life where they don't have to. Not because there stuck in some kind of rut. I won't mention the fact that you've used a picture of a tortoise because it looks like the box turtle is an incorectly named species of tortoise.

No one slanders the Tortoises :p
