John TynesJohn Tynes thinks the key to a good gaming session is having a good group. Join The Contrarian as he looks at different tools that could bring some quality to grouping in MMOGs.

Great article.

So how much of that will turn up in Pirates of the Burning Sea, huh John? :)

Hah! I was thinking the same thing, Stephen.

I would love to see some of these ideas implemented in CoH or CoV, myself.

"Drop one on a famous loot drop spawn and visitors can check the current status of the queue to fight the bad guy"

Or you could, you know, fix the archaic design of the game. I guess that was beyond the scope of this particular article though.

Nifty article, but your suggestions have more to do with making onling roleplaying richer for gamers who are already committed (e.g., in a guild), rather than making it easier to find good gamers in the first place. That's the initial hurdle every online gamer faces; and it's a steep enough one to discourage a lot of gamers (like me). And unfortunately, I haven't seen any clever suggestions for how to overcome it.

Of course, if I had a truly brilliant idea for how to assemble groups of like-minded people online - in games or anywhere else - I'd be trying to make a fortune off of it... :)
