I can see those avatars selling like hotcakes to people who aren't me. Don't get me wrong - mobile gaming is one of the ripest markets in the world - but it has little to offer the core gamer. Mostly I'm just concerned that as talent flocks to the mobile market, people who happen to like their games with comfortable controllers and/or cinematic railroad plots will be left out in the cold. Mobile gaming lacks depth, you see. (Note: I may be biased against mobile gaming. I don't ever use text messaging and I think putting a camera on a phone is a waste of space and battery power.)
I'm going to use a food analogy. Mobile gaming is like candy. It's sweet, immediately satisfying, and too much of it too fast can wreak havoc on your oral hygeine. Er, hands. Meanwhile, modern console and PC gaming is like a rare steak. It's juicy and well-seasoned, but eighty percent of the world are vegetarians, so it's hard to find the best steak chefs or the best meat, and so the steak is usually a bit tougher than you'd like. The trick is either to get a little of both, or to just skip it and order the soup. (What is the soup, anyway? Whatever it is, there's a shortage of it).
I hear people talking about mobile gaming and I worry, 'cause I haven't yet had my fill of steak - or soup - and I don't want them to stop making games in something like a contemporary style (or whatever the soup is). Variety, after all.
