Joe BlancatoSometimes it's just as enjoyable talking about gaming with other gamers as it is actually playing the games. Joe Blancato takes a look at how it works at The Escapist office.

Then there were some of us that just sat back and said, "What the hell was that all about? Erik, what's your intelligence now? Mine is 19. Are we doing another ore run tonight? I have my Mammoth!"

Great article guys....Really enjoyed this. It's so true as well. My buddies and I play a lot of Super Smash Bros. on the N64 (i know, i know, not the greatest system, but it's a great party/drinking game). The best part about the game, other than the trash-talking during, is the conversations we get into after the game is over. Berating each other for those killer moves and doing the old clap on the back for even better moves. Anyway, Great article!!

Actually, it's what I enjoy most about EVE. The game itself is built around not playing (or not feeling like you have to play). I'm training Afterburner right now. I can not play for a week. I can play every day. My character still progresses either way. The fun part is planning ops with my corp and the group I roll with, talking about the game, and otherwise enjoying being a part of it. Playing it almost feels extraneous. :)

Cool article. I talk WoW at work with two of my co-workers all the time and only one of them actually plays. The one that doesn't play did play for a month or two but is still very interested in what I did while playing the night before.

It's like my relation with MMORPGs until getting the EvE trial and the Seed beta yesterday. Before I only read about it in PC Gamer UK, so knew about the great EvE scams, the agroing of dragons to capital cities in WoW, Second Life (also in the Escapist), etc. And it was interesting to hear about events in these worlds despite not playing them.
