Enjoyed the article, and it is certainly relevant. However, I couldn't help but think that the readership and the industry might both be better served by an article (in addition to this one, not as a replacement for it) that follows a woman who became influential in the industry, but who didn't grow up with video games as a significant childhood influence.

Mark - interesting thought, but the vast majority of people (women and men) who work on games grew up gaming. In fact, I have heard that most people who work in development/software/IT grew up gaming. Not that all gamers grow up to work with computers, but the overwhelming majority of computer centered workers grew up gaming

As Denise said, she doesn't like the limelight - but as one of her biggest fans, I can't resist a plug. I've been in the industry for 26 years, and the most enjoyable, smoothest-run project in my career was Chaos Island at Dreamworks Interactive, which she produced. She has a wonderful inuitive genius for giving her team the chance to excel, but nudging us just at the right time. As lead designer she almost always deferred on design decisions to me - but every once in a while she asked me why I was doing something the way I was - and inevitably she had exposed an error or opportunity to do better. I loved working with her, and expect she'll continue her stellar career.
