I was under the assumption that Bioware pissed away any good will gained from the Mass Effect series. If that's true, that I can't see how anyone, even fans of the series, would be exited for fanservice-y stunts like this.

Can we make bets as to when this thread will descend into hatred and conflict? No?
fine.

OT: This is kinda nice of bioware to commemorate... While they've fallen from grace due to some recent events, there are still some people who like them and their work, and consider themselves fans. Me included. Even as small as this is, it's good to know they won't just shove everything mass effect related under the carpet until the next game in the franchise launches. I'm one of those people who marked november 7th, and now that Shepard's BDay is a thing, I'll be doing the same on april 11th.

I should go.

A lot of people liked Mass Effect 3. I haven't really seen any compelling arguments as to why (I think most people who do tend to have realised there isn't any point considering how they will get attacked by the more rabid of disappointed fans).

While I like Mass Effect as a series, I simply cannot muster up any excitement over it any more. In my opinion there are just too many major flaws in the third games story and writing. Knowing that they will never change thus negatively affecting any future games (in terms of lore), I am pretty much done with it.

Which is a pity, because the things they did right they have done better than pretty much any other game company out there. Mostly in making me actually have some attachment to the character I was playing. There are not many non-Bioware games that can do that for me.

You know, there are some people that don't buy into the negative attitudes, the hate, of other "fans" of the Mass Effect series. Some of said people are blissfully unaware of the amount of backlash the ending to Mass Effect 3 received by never visiting this forum.

I envy them.

Sometimes a company does things like this not out of any other reason but to appeal to those who enjoyed the games for what they were, and nothing more. To this day I will never be able to fathom how people who played the Mass Effect games and enjoyed them up to the last 20 minutes of the series' conclusion suddenly have such a sour attitude to the franchise as a whole.

It's just a video game. People need to realize this and move on. Once they do, events like this from Bioware won't seem so "fanservice-y" as you put it.

Meh. I'll be long dead by that time. And I doubt that anyone on Earth will care about Mass Effect then. But I'll probably be alive when Liara is born. That's awesome. And Wrex is already born and doing god knows what.

The ending was rushed and unsatisfying, but I still remember the 5-year long journey that led to it fondly.

Maybe it is just me, but I would have thought Bioware wouldn't want to go anywhere near cupcakes ever again. Now they're celebrating with them!

I just had to... ;)

These future birthdates of fictional characters are pretty silly to celebrate though. At best they make for an inside joke, like Riverside, Iowa as "future birthplace of James T Kirk."

This is pretty cool. I've missed Mass Effect since the ending of 3 so it's nice for a little reminder of the series that I adore so much.....I think I'll play some Mass Effect 1 after work tonight even.

Surprised Bioware doesn't have an aversion to cupcakes after 200 red, green, and blue cupcakes were sent to their office

Same. I hate the ending and the series isn't the same anymore, but I'll always remember the good times.

We'll bang, Ok?

The nice thing is, generally speaking, I only play strategy games. Thus I only got into Mass Effect a few months ago. Therefore I came into it knowing that it was very good despite the fact that some kind of 'controversy' existed regarding the ending. All I can say is that I enjoyed the game(s) immensely and the ending doesn't really bother me that much. I have seen worse endings. Much worse endings.

Plan B: cupcakes! Cupcakes in Paragon and Renegade flavors, no less, with homemade strawberry filling and whipped cream frosting.
Sorry, but I prefer my cupcakes in red, green, and blue (star cupcake is optional).

OT- I would guess they're just trying to keep the brand alive while they make ME4 and being safe by not saying anything about ME4. I honestly don't think the company could survive another "misinformation" issue.

The birthday cake should read; Happy Birthday Commander Shepard! We're sorry you went out with a whimper instead of a bang. Also, what's your first name?

I really look forward to the day when we can look back at the Mass Effect trilogy and say, well, the ending was kinda weak but we had dozens upon dozens of hours of great story, characters and gameplay, and that in the big picture it's unquestionably one of the finest RPGs ever made. I don't think I'll be able to play any future Mass Effect games, to be honest, because it will just remind me of how good the first trilogy was, and how much I miss it.

So, yeah. With conviction: Happy birthday, Commander Shepard.

I thought that Mass Effect 3 was the best game of the series.

There, I said it.

The gameplay was the best, far and away. The cover-to-cover system was good, there was more variety in guns than in 2, and they all felt really different to use, compared to 1.

The first 85% or so of the game was some of the best story in the ME series. I teared up at more moments in 3 than in either 2 or 1.

Even the multiplayer was surprisingly fun and held up for a good long while.

Aw man... and I wouldn't be around to give him/her a present... let alone attend the "baby shower"...

Happy Birthday, Commander Sherpard!! *sniff* You will grow up so fast...
