Jack Black Flipped Off Bizarre Creations Over PGR
Actor/musician Jack Black is a gamer, too. With today's release of Brutal Legend, he shared some of his gaming memories, like why he sent a picture of himself flipping the bird to Project Gotham developer Bizarre Creations.
In case you haven't been paying attention to, um, just about anything on this site for the past eighteen hours, heavy metal fantasy adventure Brütal Legend came out in North America today. If you were wondering, told USA Today's Game Hunters [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/6645-Review-Brutal-Legend] that it was currently his favorite game at the moment.
Now, voicing the main character probably doesn't hurt Black's love for the game, but he also says that he's been a long-time fan of Tim Schafer's: "I loved Psychonauts, it was one of my favorite games ever. I was looking to work with him, so it was weird he was working on a heavy metal game. Because I am so heavy metal. I think it was written in the stars, the planets."
Black, who says he has been gaming since he was a wee lad who encountered Space Invaders next to the pinball machines at restaurants, prefers a mix of thinking and action to either extreme (no Myst, but more than a "mindless point and shoot). And the gaming achievement he's most proud of? Besting Project Gotham Racing once and for all:
[blockquote]I conquered what I thought to be the hardest game of all time on expert mode. It was Project Gotham Racing, I can't remember if it was (PGR) 2 or Project Gotham Racing 1. Whatever it was, it was so (expletive) hard to conquer it on expert mode, to get all Platinum medals in all the events. I was so angry at them for making something so so hard that when I conquered it I took a picture of me standing in front of the screen that proved I conquered it flipping the bird. I sent it into the game maker.[/blockquote]
Please tell me somebody at Bizarre Creations saved that.
