the video game industry's marketing and sale of violent and pornographic Mature-rated video games to minors. We are teaching our kids how to murder.
WHOA, Whoa, hang on a second- First, he says the Video Games are to blame for teaching The lil' ones to murder, then he says that WE are to blame for teaching Johnny how to murder Jimmy. Who's really to blame: Video games, or Everyone else? Please tell us, O' Wise and Mystical Jack!

Is Mccain trying to lose the election?
Doubtful. This is just some crazy guy trying to hit them up, no way they're dumb enough to touch him with a 10 foot pole.
Well the ex-warden of the Hanoi Hilton is on board the McCain Train in addition to an undisclosed number of crazy evangelists that I could've sworn McCain told to go away at one point before he started running for president...the point is that I wouldn't be surprised.

Man this is like peanut butter and chocolate.
Two grandstanding, walking publicity stunts who have no goddamn clue what they're doing, together at last.
I see it now: "Teenage Pregnancy Caused by Saint's Row 2", or "The War in Iran is failing because of Call of Duty 6" and "Spore is a plot by the "Evolution Camp to subvert Christian beliefs"

Will somebody do something legal, assertive and effective against these two before some lunatic guns them down and gamers take the blame?

You mean like the 500k hits for this:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4ADBS_enGB244GB245&q=spore+evolutionist+propaganda
? With all the ones I bothered looking at saying basically what you just did.

Already happened.

Not everyone who is against videogame violence is a slack-jawed, overly-conversative twat, y'know [http://www.reviewsrantsrandomness.com/2008/09/12-25-videogame-violence-is-wrong.html].

It's disappointing that my attempt at humour was far, far too late.

Also, that guy seems to have is head on straight, but what does it have to do with what I said? This is what I hate about the net, I thought I was making a good point and I seem to have been completely misunderstood.

I'll try and clarify: Censorship and hyper-violence in media are both worth talking about. So are many of the things Palin pretends she understands. I would prefer time on the airways and important political posts were given to people who actually knew what they were talking about.

Which is odd, cos I saw Spore as a backer for Intelligent Design rather than evolution.

Ah, apologies. Although I did laugh at the whole 'CoD 6 causes losses in Iran', heh.

I agree, but some of the wide, vague and idiotic statements that these under qualified knit-wits mean have some backing. When gamers do articles defending videogame censorship, often they are in a far better position to make judgements about this sort of thing but always will be biased towards the minority. By making absurd, pretentious statements against videogames the likes of Thompson (and probably Palin, TBH) get the automatic backing of the masses because simply not enough people know about modern gaming to realise that what these figures are saying is wrong. To many, Jack is a leading expert on this hot-topic (just look at his show appearance list) and a legally qualified (but not any more!) professional - expert in his field (or at least his wife is). To many, Jack is the antithesis of what they believe the average gamer to be (unemployed, socially inept and braindead) which is why they give him so much coverage, I think.

Just as much as the politicians need a sane voice of reason to say 'some videogames are wrong, but others are good!' we also need a sane gamer to step up, stop unanimously bashing these strawmen for the sake of flaming, and speak some sense into the pill-popping, Escapist news-commenting, Xbox Live crowd at the same time. Censorship is great to talk about: But only if both sides understand each other.

I just wanted to link The Three Rs, TBH. :p I'm sure Maly is stick of me defending notorious anti-gaming figures and the issues they stand for on his threads anyway.

Let him do it, in fact encourage him. Palin is turning out to be Obama's greatest ally, so lets all give her a hand...

Does he know when to quite. The Horse has been well and truly flogged by a man called Heinreich, dressed up in leather gear and put in a rack.

Jack's such an attention whore.

I remember reading on one site (may have been a hoax) that one of the KKK Dragons (one of the higher ranks I believe) endorsed Obama over Clinton because, and I roughly quote, "Anything's better than that *****."
I LOL'd. Several times, in fact.

I seriously think McCain wants to throw this election, I really do. First he gets a batshit insane pro-creationist governor as his running mate, and now this.

So we've Obama who 'talks to terrorists' and Mccain who 'talks to disbanded lawyers'.

Almost, ALMOST, makes me happy we have Brown.

Regardless of the US candidates, the only thing that could make me be glad we had Brown would be if he began shooting chocolate into the sky each morning, leading to a weekly chocolate harvest across the country. Either that or tax cuts.

I'm with you on this one. McCain had my vote up until he picked Palin as his running mate, because with his age and his medical history the prospect of him dying in office is a very legitimate one. If Obama gets shot by some crazy racist dude or fundie Christian or something, we get an experienced foreign-policy maven and someone who knows how to work with the legislature. If McCain cacks, we get a woman with a walnut-sized intellect who will make us even more of an international laughingstock than we already are.

Frankly I don't like either candidate and will probably either vote Libertarian or stay home, but that's just me.
