Huh, it's pretty odd how I just read about this guy on TV Tropes.

Heh, I think I should get off the internet for a while, the longer I stay on the more I lose my faith in humanity

The article is written well, and I particularly agree that this is not the kind of attention the gaming community needs
People here can act indifferent, but that doesn't change the fact that what they on the outside, like politicians, decide, can directly impact gamer's fun

peace

I've lost interest in what he thinks of the internet. I say we should leave him in a room tied to a chair, in front of a PC and webcam and let loose the 4chan crowd for a few hours. After that, he wouldn't be able to speak, everyone would lose interest in berating him, and all the issues would resolve themselves!

He's right to feel threatened - I wouldn't be impressed if someone was offering a bounty against me either. But the American ideology of suing everyone and everything (a la McDonald's for making you fat) for personal gain and/or keeping face is pretty pathetic. I'll accept a lawsuit against a negligent chef who poisons a customer, but Facebook host the site, they don't moderate it. If they've got that in their Ts+Cs then Mr Thompson's going to be laughed out of court yet again.

What the..... He thinks that some people wanting to make a video game of a character punching him is the same as that Facebook app asking whether the president should be killed? Can the guy sink any lower?

People should be allowed to make groups against whatever they want. If they want to make an anti-Jack Thompson group, it's up to them and he should be mature enough to handle a bunch of kids making a protest FaceBook group. However, making threats against him in that way not only gives gamers a bad name, but gives him the right to be upset and even sue. This is the first and probably only time I will ever say this in my entire life, but Jack Thompson is right in this situation.

I'm all for freedom of speech, but they're threatening him here. That's the illegal part that he's mad at.

Apparently, someone's wearing their heart on their sleeves. Oh there there, Jack. The mean people on Facebook won't hurt you, I promise. Would you like me to warm your milk and sing you to sleep as well?

Honestly, who cares? Unless someone makes a direct threat like, "I'm going to Jack Thompson's house right now and punching him with " why bother? It's the internet for goodness sake. If everyone took everything people said to heart all the time, we'd be the most mentally fucked up world. And c'mon, it's FACEBOOK for crying out loud. That's like suing someone in a wheel chair cause they ran over your feet. [sub]The American legal system is so lametarded.[/sub] Unless people were ACTUALLY conspiring over Facebook...Then THAT would be a problem. If not, let people ***** and rant all they want. Hell, wouldn't that be kinda hypocritical of him?

Unrelated question:

Why does Jack Thompson always refer to himself by his surname when discussing his legal situations (i.e. "Thompson suffered this, Thompson opposes that"?)

Is it a legal convention, or is he just pretentious? I thought you were supposed to refer to individuals in legal filings as "the plaintiff" or something.

He's going to, at some point, invoke Godwin's Law and compare us gamers to the Nazis, and that will be a great day.
He'll be getting a visit from those nice young men in their clean white shirts and they're coming to take him away, HA HA!

Tune in next time for the exciting adventures of Wacko Jacko, Paranoid Schizophrenic/Disbarred Lawyer Extraordinaire!

[sub]And for future reference, the answer to the above questions is hell no, never, and frak you for thinking that. Respectively.[/sub]

Ah Thompson, how I wish my videogame panda/crocodile mixed pet would come at you face to face, lets see you smart mouth your way out of that one you ass. Incidentally, how can a disbarred lawyer compare himself to Barack FREAKIN' Obama, a friggin' world leader, I laugh at Thompson's stupidity.

"Unlike our President, Thompson does not have the Secret Service to protect him"

And for that we can be thankful.

It seems that GTA IV has made the internet evil too now, soon Jack Thomson will be the only non-psychopathic person alive. Left to save the earth from the Dark Lord Rockst'arr Nór-th and his armies of programmed kill-bot teenagers.

I think we should all thank him in advance for saving our lives.
