James Franco and Seth Rogen Will Take Down Kim Jong-un in The Interview

Comedy duo drafted to assassinate North Korean dictator in new action comedy

The first trailer has just hit for The Interview, a highly-anticipated fall comedy that will reunite the director and (two of) the stars of last year's surprise hit This Is the End. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/moviesandtv/columns/moviebob/10430-Apocalaughs]

The premise? James Franco is the clueless host of low-rent tabloid TV show who is unexpectedly informed that eccentric North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show and wants Franco's character to be the first Western journalist he grants an interview to. But before they can set out for their destination, the would-be interviewer and his producer/buddy (Seth Rogen) are contacted by the CIA - who want them to use the opportunity assassinate the dictator. Presumably, none of this goes according to plan.

The film marks the sophomore directorial effort for Evan Goldberg, Rogen's longtime friend and writing/producing partner who made his directing debut on This Is the End. The Interview is due in U.S. theaters in early October and in North Korean theaters probably never.

Hey maybe we will get lucky and Kim Jong-un will take this as a real assassination attempt and have these two incredibly untalented 'comedians'? assassinated first.

Hmmm, this doesn't seem like the kind of movie I'll run out to see. Then again I did enjoy Nieghbors even though I also went into that not expecting much so who knows.

James Franco, untalented? Even without the comedy the guy's worth more than most people. No thanks.

OT:
Seems "wacky", but I tend to miss these comedies until TV viewing, so... I doubt this'll be any different.

The trailer reminded me of Jared Hess's work: a "comedy" film where said comedy is nonsensical or just falls flat and the drama is given more importance.

Well, North Korea's reaction should be worth a laugh at any rate.

Then it turns out that the actual CIA contacted Seth Rogen and James Franco to be a part of this movie to goad North Korea into making a move so they can get the go ahead to send in an actual assassin detail.

Highly anticipated? This is the first I've heard of it and the trailer doesn't look that good, the only thing it has going for it at the moment is that I like Seth's and Franco's work together.

- Make a film about assassinating Kim Jong-Un
- Gets assassinated by Kim Jong-Un

This is Kim Jong-Un we're talking about here, not Vladmir Putin.

OT; Not a big fan of Seth, but this sounds like it may not be a bad movie.

I... don't know how to feel about this movie... the same way I didn't know how to feel before watching This Is The End...

I would not be surprised if, when I do watch this movie, I end up enjoying it...

(Inb4 Psy's new song "Hangover" makes a short cameo appearance somewhere in this movie...)

Nice, I'm looking forward to this. Seth and Franco make films that the comedy snob in me used to keep saying I shouldn't like, that is until my sense of humour brutally murdered him.

I thought "This is the End" was the funniest movie in quite some time. There weren't many laughs in the trailer but maybe they're saving them for the actual movie (as they should). Rogen and Franco are always funny. Plus, as someone already said, the reaction from North Korea alone is worth this movie being made.
