It's easy to be picky if you live at your parent's house etc etc....

I worked a few months at wal-mart, in the warehouse, shameful ? yes, necessary to pay the bills ? also yes.

I got a nice paying job now but no job is "beneath" someone, if you're in trouble and need money for rent/food you'll take whatever's available, trust me.

Edit : obviously i'm talking about regular jobs, i'm leaving out prostitution etc...

I wouldn't like to do anything that involves cleaning.
I've done cleaning, its not so bad, its poor pay but its an easy job.

I'd take anything I could to be honest, but thats probably because I'm a vagabond rogue and have needed to earn money anyway I can in the past (no sniggering at the back).

I called someone a wanker in a bar last year, because he was saying to this hot little barmaid that his pride wouldn't let him do her job, I then found out he was unemployed... well yeah, cos your a pratt dude!.

Any job that is immoral is beneath me. That's pretty much it. I'm not going to work for the KKK, for example. I can't really think of a job that I would not do at some level of desperation.

Well I plan to travel the world, so I don't consider any jobs to be beneath me as I'll probably end up doing all of them to get around
The minute your near the beach, I recommend getting a job as an Ice Cream or Churos seller, you earn a mint and get to meet fitties on the beach all day long. Also your cream the money because the little kids pester their parents for that sort of stuff, make sure you entertain the kids and your set for the whole week while they are on holiday.

I'd never be a prostitute, jigalo maybe, but I am never going to stand outside a truck stop giving blow jobs out to fat guys named 'Big Jerry'.
Girls do not pay men to sleep with them. Guys pay guys to sleep with them. The image of a jigalo sleeping with beautiful women and being paid for it is a myth.
I wish you were right, but I'm afraid you're wrong [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7931925.stm].

Nothing is below me, save selling myself for sex. My current job is basically a mindfuck, and while I don't need it, it's far better than being unemployed. Trust me.

I take offense at the title of this thread. The janitors in my school district happen to be very nice people (well at least three of them are) and I wouldn't classify them as "sub-people".

I'm not trying to accuse you of being a jerk, just that the title of this thread is a bit distasteful, regardless of ill intention or no.

Exceptions to every rule exist, except this one =P. There is a slight difference between that guy who was scamming the women and then blackmailing them, and a male prostitute. That was what I was talking about, I suppose a man that has a relationship involving mostly sex with women to get at her money would still be considered a jigalo. It is different with women, we have 20 different names for all that crap when it is women doing it. Gold-digger, whore, prostitute, nympho. Well you get the drill.

Currently, there's no job I consider beneath me. At this point in time I would do anything for money.
Does that make me a whore?

Mmm, I can understand illegal activities, drug couriering, prostitution (the bad kind) and the like. But...I'll have to disagree. Despite your protestations: You are -never- too good for any job even if you think so. There is no shame in working in a fast food restaurant, or menial labor, or sanitation or whatever. And like it or not, these are all services that -have- to be performed by someone.

If you can find a job you like, awesome, go with that. Just be aware that that may not always be the case, and you may be missing opportunities, that while not ideal in your mind, are still opportunities nonetheless.
I would use the traditional "this", but I fear the banhammer so, well said.

Any job is one that needs to be done (with the exception of like, a prostitute) and therefore makes it a respectable profession. That "holier than thou" attitude shows the true ignorance of some people.

I've worked both in Fast Food (lasted 2 nights), a grocery store bake shop, and a couple of differant gigs as a Janitor before going into Security. Actually being a Janitor isn't that bad, and can pay better than you think at the right places. The problem is that a lot of places aren't willing to pay Janitorial staff fair wages, but some places do. You'd be surprised at what some people get paid to wash floors and do odd jobs.

As far as prostitution goes, well I would never be a Gigalo simply because most of their clients aren't women, and the women who uses them are usually pretty beastly. It's not like the fantasy.

*IF* I was a girl I probably wouldn't mind being a Call Girl, the ones I've run into (and yes I've met more than a few) service a higher class of clients than "Big Jerry" and typically the dudes (or girls) they wind up with wash themselves well before a "date" and as often or not are using them for some kind of kink. To put it into perspective (as it was explained). You would go "OMG I'd never do that" over being whipped, having someone pee in your face, or put plastic wrap over your face and then taking a dump on it. But really it's no worse than an episode of "Jackass" and she's making better money than Steve-O with less overall risk. It occurs to me that there are far, far, worse ways to make a living. But then again I keep being diagnosed with severe depression and self esteem issues.

The "Big Jerry" type girls are Stret Walkers, and no... I wouldn't do that. Those ladies are typically drug addicts and such, or what happens when a pimp gets their hooks into a runaway. That is plain nasty for the most part, and where most of the horror stories about prostitution come from.

Of course then again most of the girls *I* talked to were "dating" guys at a Hotel/Resort/Casino. Despite the various "busts" of prostitution rackets it goes on constantly and use your imagination on who some of them ultimatly work for. ;)

I won't comment on Sex Club workers since I currently have no real experience with that.

Please keep the peanut gallery to a minimum (given what I've said in some other threads I can already anticipate what some people are likely to want to type in return).
Well sir, you certainly know the in's and out's of the sex trade!

People should never rule prostitution out! Especially in America in the states where it's legal. In my opinion, the choice between starving or prostitution is a very easy one to make.

I have a degree in literature.

In order to fund this higher education, since my parents are not wealthy, I have worked in McDonalds, I have worked as a Janitor, I have worked as a receptionist and I have worked as an office secretary/dogsbody/man-that-makes-the-tea.

No job is beneath me, because unlike a lot of people here I cannot rely on my parents to subsidise my lifestyle.

Shame that graduate level jobs are very rare since the recession, because it looks like I am going back to the office job until I get my TEFL qualification.

But I think the main issue I have with this thread is that a lot of people here seem to think that people who do work crap jobs are somehow sub-human. Hell, its even in the title. Well I have news for y'all: SOME OF THOSE PEOPLE ARE WAY SMARTER THAN YOU, THEY JUST DON'T HAVE YOUR WEALTHY PARENTS TO FALL BACK ON.

Take my advice: collectively slap yourselves in the face, look in the mirror and realise that you are f*cking privileged to not have to work some of the jobs I have had to. Typical middle class kids don't have a clue about the real world.

Without tempting the gods of fate, I'd have to say any job where one distributes flyers or advertisements directly on the street.

You'd best stay away from Big Jerry, I don't like it when people muscle in on my customers.

EDIT: Oh, and I thought that I'd add that most of the custodians at my highschool were some of the coolest people I've ever met. A lot of them were 'Nam vets, had some very good stories. They were only there, working in a dead-end job, because our nation really doesn't tend to do a whole lot for war veterans, even though our military is probably our largest industry. They had families to feed, and working in a highschool where people treat the bathroom toilets as an optional target for receiving piss, is the best they can do.

They're not stupid. They're not incapable of doing better. They were just never given the opportunities that the wealthy and successful had handed to them on a silver platter: no hopes of getting a fantastic job or university application accepted due to nepotism, or funded by being born into wealth.

I have to admit, I have a hell of a lot more respect for people with blue-collar jobs than I do for people that work in administrative roles. They're humble, good people, and for the most part, they're extremely friendly. Just giving them a smile and a nod is enough to make their day, and let them know that they're appreciated, whereas those with a cushy, secure job can whine endlessly about their more-than-adequate salaries not being high enough for them to afford that sports car, or other juvenile fantasies that they've never given up on because they've never been exposed to the harsh realities of life.
