i'm sure this question has been asked before, and if you know of a link, then posting it would be very helpful, but i'm asking here anyways. so im going to japan next year and i was thinking of buying a ps3 and/or a psp there along with some games. im just wondering when i move back to canada, will i be able to play north american localized games on a japanese ps system?

The PS3 doesn't have region-locking, as far as I know (unlike the PS2, as I found out the hard way), so you should be able to play non-Japanese games on one.

I don't know about the PSP, though.

PS3 Games will work on all PS3 and vice versa. However, PS1 games will only work in their localization (PAL and NTSC). I'm not sure what Canada is, but Japan I believe is PAL. So only PAL PS1 games will work, but ALL PS3 games will be fine. Also, PS2 games won't work at all with the new PS3's.

Canada is NTSC-U, just like the US. Also, I corrected that little mistake you made there (PAL is Europe, not Japan).

OT: Like others have said, PS3s are region free at least for PS3 games, so you'll be able to play any PS3 game from any of the three regions (NTSC-U, NTSC-J, and PAL) with no problem. The PSP is the same, as well, so you'd have no problem buying one in Japan and then playing games you bought back in Canada.
