Japanese Horror Master Junji Ito Was Working on Silent Hills

That game that we're never going to play just keeps sounding more and more awesome.

So if you're not already sad enough about the Silent Hills [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/140592-Del-Toro-Confirms-Silent-Hills-Cancellation], we've just learned that Japanese horror master Junji Ito (Gyo, Uzumaki, Tomie) was also working on the game.

If you've no idea who Ito is, get your hands on Uzumaki [http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=1249] as soon as possible, and prepare to not sleep tonight.

The news comes from del Toro himself, who Tweeted [https://twitter.com/RealGDT/status/648117433593655296?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw] that Ito was a collaborator on the cancelled project, sharing a few gruesome images from his work. The director spoke of meeting Ito in Japan a while ago, but until now we didn't know it was due to Silent Hills.

"He was very, very shy, and I kept slapping him on the back, which was not very Japanese," said del Toro. "Junji Ito is the only author of comics that has scared the shit out of me. When the shark takes the stairs in Gyo, grows the mechanical crab legs chasing them up the stairs, I literally threw away the comic and yelled, 'NO!' I was so absolutely scared."

Another day, another reason to be pissed at Konami.

So, if we're keeping score here, this is the third time we've been kicked in the teeth by Konami being dicks where Silent Hill is involved.

I can't even muster to get angry anymore since it's pretty damn clear that Konami doesn't care about the talent that fell into their lap on the project. Akira Yamaoko could have been attached as well and I would just shake my head.

Being a Silent Hill fan is hard. :( Can only hope that the people involved get together to make their own horror game in a new IP. Unlikely, but a man can dream.

Konami, I hope you get trapped in a long dream of land-walking fish spewing noxious gases within a small town from which you cannot escape as a spiralling wall of mouldy walls closes in on you while people controlled as puppets draw you towards the centre where you find holes made specifically for you waiting at the centre!

50 points to whoever got all of those.

I didn't think it was possible to fuck up this badly as a video game company but Konami proved me wrong. Makes me wish they'd do us all a favour and sell the rights for their games but I have a feeling they'll just make pachinko machines out of them.

It's a cross that we all must bear, but I hate it how it came out like this. :/

It would be pretty sweet if they all make new horror IPs. It's a lovely dream, and at least in my dreams they're safe from Konami.

As I mentioned in another thread, I'm a big fan of Junji Ito and would've loved to see what he had in store for Silent Hill.

This news really bummed me out. If I wasn't initially hyped for Silent Hills, then this news would've sold me instantly. I hope all of them collaborate for something else in the future, because that's just a huge waste of some huge talents.

It might have been the first amazing Silent Hill since 2. Now it shall never be because Konami is brain dead.

Well, shit... That's reason number 10 of reasons I would have bought this game on impulse alone...

Other than that, one more reason and I get a free "fuck" to wave around... :p

Even thought I like Junji's work, I don't see it work with Silent Hill's Lore.
Junji's wonderful stories of horror, worked only if they are straightforward and give you the final "punch" at the very end.
Silent Hill is a mystery that it had been "solved". The element of surprise is gone. So, Junji will create a monster just to be a monster for Silent Hill representing something from the life of the hero/other person.

But I digress. Silent Hill 2 also wasn't connected with the main story of the game, and it was one of the best Silent Hills I played.
So maybe if the work of Junji for SIlent Hill WOULD have been effective.

Never was into silent hill games. But seeing what this one could have been, I feel I actually might have liked it. Fuck Konami.

Ah, that Uzumaki though, such memories. Told one Russian flat mate to read it, and next time I saw him his first words to me were "Fcuk You!" Good times.

It's actually kind of amazing at how much contempt Konami has aimed at their customers over the years. I don't what happened to management, but they must have been consuming vast quantities of lead in order to act this asinine.

silent hills sounds more and more like the videogame equivalent of the cancelled dune movie by jodorowsky. sometimes epic talent comes together on a project, and then it simply gets cancelled :(

I can only give Konami credit for one thing at this point. At least they are trying their best to get out of the video game business. That's it, that's all I can think of as a positive for this situation and even that's overshadowed by the fact that they'll probably take their IP's with them.

Couldn't have said it better.

Genuinely feels like their moves have been orchestrated to cause maximum disappointment and heartache among game fans.

While people are here mourning about Silent Hills.

I'm here enjoying Silent Hill: Downpour a game unfairly looked down upon. (And I have played the first 3 games)

Ugh, twist the knife, why don't you? Seriously, it's bad enough the dream is dead, do we have to have this salt poured into the wound?

This seriously convinces me that Konami does not like money. At all. This is flushing away license to print money if I've ever seen it.
