The Japanese making fun of white people is nothing new, hell look at Pepsiman, if you can find it that is. Whatever, xenophobia's like crack to them anyway.
Why not? It works for the day laborers.Aardvark said:Why would any self-respecting white person communicate in katakana? Everybody knows that shouting in English at non-english speakers gets the message across.
I was about to write something similar. Whilst I don't find this ad offensive, I'll bet if we made an ad about a Japanese person struggling with English, that went everywhere, even in the shower holding their camera, and was only 3.5ft tall, advertising noodles, there would be hell to pay from the PC brigade.sumanoskae said:Wait so if Japan makes a commercial depicting an offensive Caucasian stereotype everyone says it?s just a harmless joke, but when someone over here makes an offensive joke referring to a minority or anyone who was once part of an oppressed group of people they get slammed, am I the only one who sees a problem with this?
Don't get me wrong, I think it's fine as long as there are no bad intentions, I'm just trying to point out that there are double standards that sometimes hide behind other double standards
I've got to say that you put your opinion, and mine, very well.scotth266 said:I can see why they'd be upset. Anyone remember how Taco Bell got sued for the Chihuahua, with some people claiming that it was a racist stereotype? If you don't, that's why it disappeared: some Mexicans thought that it was racist. This is just another version of that. If "Yo quiero Taco Bell" had to go in the US, I think it's entirely reasonable that they would make these demands.
Not that I find anything offensive with it, mind you: I just hate the concept of Acceptable Targets. If you can make fun of one group, and use stereotypes of one group, you should be allowed to do so to all groups.

Maybe, their economy and and stability in terms of infrastructure, GDP, average household income, and industrial productivity seem to show they are not doing so well. Maybe with ol' Castro out of the picture things can start to go up.mendokusai said:It did?APPCRASH said:I think this calls for some...EMBARGO! Worked on Cuba.
OT: Sure it's politically incorrect, but then again they could be playing mindgames with us to promote their product through controversy. Actually, nevermind. There's no sane reason why McDonald's would ever need to do that.
