That ad campagin is fantastic. I really don't see why jokes like this aren't done more often. People are just stupidly over sensitive. The best way to deal with racism is to make fun of it. That's my 2 cents anyway.

If anyone is trying to use black slavery or the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki as a way to back their arguments, kindly chop your hands off and smash your head against a solid object until your brain turns into a fine vapor you mountainous wastes of human life.

You know political correctness is so messed up? People like you.

ROFL, the title cracked me up in itself!

I think the world needs a bit more stereotyping, =D

I don't see the problem with the advert, but I think as some one else pointed out white people need to stop stabbing each other in the backs, forcing us to live under the heel of our fellow white man.

Your mileage may vary.
A fellow troper I see. When I was reading this article, all I could think of was this [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AcceptableEthnicTargets].
DAMN YOU! I JUST SPENT AN HOUR AND A HALF ON TVTROPES BECAUSE OF THAT LINK!

Come on, surely you know what happens when you put links to that site up? It's a fucking vortex!

Poking fun at other cultures is ok in my book aslong as its only for a joke and not to insult said culture, its their TV they can put up what ever ads they want though. Although I find it funny that they're poking fun at a man for only knowing the foreign version of their stupidly complex language, I mean really two alphabets? one for foreign words and the other for Japanese ones? its madness, madness I say!

Ahha... I thought I'd never see the day when white people would be accusing other races of being racist.
The tables have turned, white people. It's the other people's turn now!

And?

Nobody makes fun of white American people nowadays, I think they're well deserving of a good joke. The French, Russians and black people have been in the firing line for too long.
Excuse you but in America white people are the group that's most discriminated against because every time something happens to a minority they automatically blame racism and Al Sharpton goes for a march and the NAACP tries to get the person fired.

Racism this and racism that did it ever occur to anyone that a minority group could have racists in it?
An example of this is at my job. I'm a lifeguard and whenever I enforce the rules to a white kid the parents step in and they understand but whenever a minority child breaks the rules the parents flip out on my and call me a racist, they call me a "honky" and a "cracker" but someone cant say back can't say "spick" or a "******" or "_____" (fill in blank with whatever other term you can come up with) even when they open up with the racism.

Why is it that minorities can call ME racist names and that makes ME a racist?

The real question is what is "fair"? Is fairness a way to get back at someone else? Isn't that revenge?
I'll tell you what isn't fair. Seeing your freind beaten to death, because he's black. That isn't fair.

Then I'll tell you what else isn't fair. Seeing the fuckers go free because in America, apparently every bastard at every doorstep is racist, and refuse to give evidence. That's not fair. So no, you can't excuse me. Just because your a lifeguard, it doesn't give you a lifes worth of knowledge, or an ability to tell others what's fair, and what isn't.

To be honest everyone is in the firing line for being made fun of, I've heard plenty of jokes at the expense of white/black/yellow/blue folk but what I believe Jwan was trying to get at is that when it goes beyound a joke and into actual hatred that some people are very quick to pull the race card. And in Britain (I assume its the same in America) its seen as "Ok" to make racist comments towards the majority but not to the minority which is wrong because we should be all treated equally no one should get special treatment because their grandfathers were treated badly yes it should be reconised but the events of the past should not be used as fuel in the future (in this case).

And we have all heard and seen events of people getting killed purely due to race, I was attacked by a group of asian youths purely because I was white (one called me white bread which I found rather humorous afterwords), they threw bricks at my head a few connected as they shouted for me to get out of their part of town, the sad thing? I didn't go to the police because I knew nothing would happen, I knew no one would testify for me and I knew they would expect that I did something to provoke them.

So in the end we should all be treated by the same law and no one (again) should be treated for being this race or that religion, its pathetic when I see people actually thinking its ok for this to happen purely because there is more of us and we "deserve" it because of what happen x number of years ago.

Racism is wrong no matter who is being targeted its about time some people realised that

Oh, holy hell. Speaking as an American who has lived in Japan for seven years, holy hell.

Yeah, let's reinforce the stereotypes of the idiot gaijin who can't speak Japanese. ARGH. I beat my head against that damned stereotype every single day, even from people at work who are amazed to see me reading a book in Japanese...never mind my job is to translate Japanese to English and the only language I speak to them in is Japanese--I'm foreign, how can I read kanji!

To say nothing of the Japanese people that won't even speak to me, just gesture or break out their terrible, haven't spoken since high school English, because they all assume us dumb foreigners can't speak their language. Like the idiot who said, "Go back to your own country!" in Japanese at me and my friends, and then got the shock of his life when it turned out all three of us were fluent in Japanese. And there are the people who want to make a "gaijin friend." Because that's not creepy at all, to have a middle aged salary man sidle up next to you and say he wants to make a gaijin friend, so give him your phone number, or someone pester you as you're trying to walk home because they want English lessons.

Yes, yes it has. I'm not white, but my white friends have had things like being told to their faces, "We don't hire foreigners [because they don't speak Japanese]." Or having strange people roll on up and say, "So, are your pubes blond, too?" And there are the gaijin-fechi (people with a gaijin fetish), and uuuuuuuuuuuuuugh.

Me, I'm Black (meaning I've had my own experiences with problems getting jobs; one job I only got because the guy who interviewed me pulled and pulled for me HARD even though his boss didn't want to hire a Black woman) but look biracial, meaning I'm constantly mistaken for being Brazilian, and oh, LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH FUN THAT WAS when I lived in Aichi, where Toyota is headquartered and so there is a large Brazilian population (factory workers). I, personally, just love old people glaring at me for having the gall to be breathing in their glorious Nippon air.

And also joyous is having people on elevators pet me. I wish I could say I was kidding, but no. Old women just seem to love petting my hair and stroking it without so much as saying a word to me.

I love Japan, but Christ, this stuff stops being 'funny' and fast when you have to deal with it every day.

Come on, that's hardly a white only trait, around here white people are quite often killed\raped\beaten simply because they were white. it's a two sided street. Civil liberty isn't about fucking revenge, it's about fairness.

Only if you're rich, better at something than them, or have their kind of beauty.
Anime characters typically have at least one of those three.

I agree about the double standard that was brought up. If McDonalds in America started selling Sushi (God Forbid) and the ads had a buck-toothed yellow skinned guy saying, "Oooo.. Sushi Me Rove Rots McDonalds!", the JACL and ALC would be protesting outside McDonalds headquarters after day 1.

Overall though McDonalds Japan is just being stupid with their marketing. Yes, Americans are a minority in Japan, but they're still a customer base nonetheless and I know if I saw that a restaurant was calling me an idiot before I even walked in the door, I would not be very willing to eat there. I'm no marketing expert, but I don't think INSULTING potential customers is a good way to boost sales.

You mean they aren't? All of my knowledge from anime is false? But seriously, from what I can tell of online forums with people who live in Japan, racism isn't that big of a deal, especially in the big cities.
I like the Japanese people, and lived there for two years. That said, the society as a whole is very racist, it's just part of their mindset. They simply don't recognize it as a moral shortcoming. Of course, a japanese man or woman could intensely dislike you, and you'd probably never, ever know it, because it's considered stupid and a loss of face to be angry or contemptous . . at least openly. I did meet a few drunken japanese that displayed racism towards me, or just obnoxiousness towards the foreigner.

This is a people that are the most polite towards their bitterest enemies, because that's how you set them up for the big fall ;)

Well, lets be honest here, the French will never be in the firing line too long if they keep being French.
