Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Gorrilaz do this first? I remember they appeared on stage as holograms with Madonna at the grammys. And aren't they older than Miku?
The Gorrilaz actually use vocals from live individuals but Miku is purely digital although I doubt she wrote the lyrics

If holographic idols made music this awesome I'd be all for it.

Unfortunately, this Hatsune Miku sings the same run of the mill J-pop songs as all the others. Still, the tech they're using could be a great application for 3-D television.

I've never heard of this but this technology is awesome. I'm looking forward to what will be possible in the future.

Dammit ya beat me to it funk. That was the only thing I could think about when reading this news post. Well I don't plan to be hypnotized by some lyrics or get involved in a three way relationship.

If holographic theater becomes a reality, I will once again happily pay money for entertainment outside of my house.

I'm sorry, Mr. Funk... but my heart is only for Linn Minmei [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Robotech_characters#Linn_Minmei]

Sad but no less true.

I'm with the tone of the article... I really really admire the technology behind it, but not the premise. Just not my cup of tea m'fraid.

Um... Pretty cool, i guess.
I like Po pi po~, though i prefer the 2D version of this on youtube.
But one day I'd like to see this, nevertheless, even just for the holographic techno stuff.

I hope this doesn't spread over here...
If I pay to see a band, I want to see the band... not a prerecorded hologram of said band.

While its a neat idea for say... amusement park attractions... this should not be a substitute for live performances.

Also... why all this fervor over a FREAKING IMAGINARY CHARACTER?
Not real... projection... why all the fuss?
I don't think we'll ever fully understand the Japanese...

Also... What is this... I don't even...

But Gorrilaz also sell out shows. This isn't that surprising, it's just the next version.

I just... I've been sitting for ten minutes trying to think of something to type in response to this. I'm at a complete loss of words. Exept maybe, what would happen if I tried to grab her arm, or something? Would it just kinda phase through?

I don't know I find the whole Miku thing kind of cute and silly. It's just fine if you don't take it to seriously. And as long as what happens in the Warren Ellis comic [http://www.artbomb.net/comics/superidol.jsp] never actual happens I'm a good as gold with it.

Do they make models where the woman is older then 16?

I mean, not that id wanna "fap" to it or anything, but i just dont feel right being teased by an underage hologram.

Well, your hand would hit the pane of glass that the hologram is projected onto.

Holography a la Star wars (free-floating images) is still a long way away, holography as it's know today is basically projecting an image a certain way onto a sheet of glass.

The reason this is interesting is that until now (so far as I can tell) there hasn't been a fluidly animated hologram, they've all been sprite-based affairs.

Not my cup of tea. It saddens the judgemental part of me that "she's" anyone's cup of tea.
This. And how can they go to a concert, its not even talent, its just a machine... I wouldnt go to to see a machine, I may aswell just listen to my ipod.

Japan seems to be getting weirder/creepier all the time imo.
A lot of people in this thread seem to have taken a few blows to the head.

Yes, she's a fictional character created by sampling pop artist/actress Saki Fujita and yes, her voice is programmed digitally, but the songs are completely crowdsourced. As in, people composed, wrote and performed all of these songs on their own.

This is actually more real than most pop music, since a lot of these people are fairly unknown/don't have access to thousands of dollars of studio equipment. How is it not talent? There are people onstage playing the instruments. What difference does it make that the vocals are synthesized?

maybe its a spoof on the place music is today, with auto tune and all the talented people being behind the scenes and people only caring about the image, but that would be boring.

when can i get one filled with porn for my home?
