This is rather tasteless advertising to an almost pediphile degree, because those people look like 12-14 year old kids/teenagers.

If that's someones fetish, doesn't that belong in an adult sex game ? Perhaps it's just too close to real people in some regards while pushing forward ridiculous cartoon breast fetishes.

I do find this combination of "look at those fuckable teenagers" with cartoonishly fake breasts creepy.

Good one Jim. Nasty subject with a few good laughs makes it easier to talk about it.

Well Jim, thank you, you have made my day by making me laugh so much :D

And boobs just don't work that way. It's so weird. They just do not work that way.

If people were really that opposed to it the games wouldn't sell.

Yet they do. Simple economics dictate, and especially in times where both your industry is contracting and the market is plateauing, that you go where the money is.

I think the bigger question is whether or not we can distinguish between unnatural fantasies and actual reality, because this is by no means the first time we've been presented with unrealistic representations of humans.

I've never played a DoA title and I will probably continue in that tradition, now that I have a hard-on for grand-strategy games... But I don't understand why all the laments about the big wobbly boobs in Japanese games.

Seriously guys, Japan has been spewing some really crazy shit over the years. I use to love animes during the 90's and early 2000's but I can't look at the new ones anymore. I've had my fair share of hentai, I've never enjoyed it but I could understand people who did, I even saw a few as "artistic". But the new ones are just... wtf?! I don't like to stereotype japanese people as being perverted and crazy. But their perverted and crazy ones are more perverted and crazier than any other country has to offer.

So excuse me if having big wobbly breasts in a fighting game doesn't seem the end of the world to me. At least they're honest about it. Plus, big breasts are what DoA is all about. If I were a fan, I'd be pretty pissed about normal breasts in DoA 4 too. I'm amazed at the nerve of us westerners. How dare we complain about sexualization in other cultures, when our TV shows contain more sex than a mild hentai? Big Bang Theory has 99% sex jokes and 1% geek jokes? How the heck did that happen?! Unrealistic polygon boobs are nothing compared to that.

I just wish people would say what it is, porn. I have no judgement over what people find kinky as its a fetish and you can't really help it. If people get off to DoA then fine just stop making excuses, I saw the film, if its anything like the games then its story is about as good as a porn so why not just treat it as such. I reeeeeeeeally wish that an all male patch would come out... although all the guys would look and act the same... thinking about it even by ecchi standards DoA's fairly pants, theres no variety... wheres the Korra's and the Marcelines, personality goes a long way Team Ninja.

I can not believe that I get a third thread to post this in, but here we go:

Team Ninja should just go ahead and be completely open.
I can see the press release now:
"We at Team Ninja have decided to finally come forth on a matter that has riled humanity as a whole and nearly started World War V, a War so badass that it would have skipped right over III and IV. Our stance on the breasts of our female characters. Earlier, we claimed, that these breasts were designed to appeal to a mature gamer audience that appreciates the shape of the female body in a classy, artsy way. We also made the claim, that these designs sprang from roots deeply engrained in our culture. However, these statements were not completely accurate.
The honest truth is: We like boobies. Milkbags, Melons, Knockers, Mammaries, Assets, Bazookas, whatever you want to call them, we like them. And I personally appreciate breasts in all sizes and shapes, but our lead designer has a thing for gargantuan jigglypuffs which is why he decided to make every jellybonker of such huge proportions, that, by right, they should have their own gravitational pull, and, in fact, if you manage to get an apple into the game and throw it at a female characters bristols, it will orbit around them.
Again, I am not opposed to having smaller breasts in games, but we wanted to see how far we could push it before everyone would cry out against us. We coded parts of the game so that every chesticle would be individually moved by it's own physics engine and we enjoyed that, not because these bouncing bazongas aroused us, but because it gave us a sense of boyish glee to push the envelope of kahunas in games even further.
In short, we did it, because we, at Team Ninja, fully subscribe to the notion of liking sweater puppies and we shall not apologize for that.
We are deeply sorry however, about the civil wars we caused in some parts of the world, where gamers and non-gamers alike took to weapons over this issue. Tis tragic, that something as beatuiful and wondrous as female breasts would incite such violence. Our hearts are with the families of the fallen.
Now if you will excuse me, I have to go, I am in dire need of a good HUBBALUBBALUBBA.

Anyway, complaining about this is pointless. A developer has their own style you might not agree with so let them be.
Did you miss half the episode? A good chunk of Jim's point was the fact that they were trying to do everything but take responsibility for their own "style."

It just screamed of pedophilia and I assume from their looks either those are either under aged girls or at-least meant to look like such.
I think that's part of the "it's just our culture" argument, since Japan has a proud history of sexualising children.

I think it is fair to blame it on culture and the customers. The customers buy the games with the helium balloons so that is what is made. At the end of the day they still make the plastic ladies but without a demand there is not supply. As for the culture. Well not that I have seen hentai but whenever the women moves her nipples always trace a heart shape and come back to the center. Repeatedly and always to same path so it might as well be a short giff. So it does seem like a culture thing.

Gah! Now I see what all the fuss is about, and it is goddamn frightening.

Don't get me wrong: I love boobs. Probably significantly more than my fellow man (like, even if that fellow man is on the internet). And those, my good sirs and ladies, are absolutely not boobs. Those are sentient malevolent water balloons. And yes they are on apparently underage girls. As a wiser person than myself once said, "Do not want."

Wow, I heard but these games but never really seen anything about them and never played them.
I found the footage to be disturbing. It just screamed of pedophilia and I assume from their looks either those are either under aged girls or at-least meant to look like such.

I find the guys response appalling too, to say it is a culture thing. How terrible is that to throw your entire people under the bus in a attempt to justify your own behaviors? Is his defense really that Japanese people are so deprived of mortality in regards to sex that the entire population is not only okay with but supports pedophilia and has such a twisted view on females? I for one cannot accept his response as factual because I think the Japanese people are better than that.

Can you imagine anyone trying to use this logic on any other topic? In Egypt a few months back a few men stabbed another man to death because he was sitting on a bench with a woman alone. This woman turned out to be the fiance of the man. But should we look at the culture of the people and simply accept it and not expect any justice for the innocent man? Of course not. While these game developers never murdered anyone they still use the same defense and logic to defend their wrong doings.
You need to remember that Japanese women look... well... childish. My flute teacher was a 43 year old Japanese mother who looked like a 20 year old with D cups. Then it's all the school uniforms and the fact that most have smaller breasts than western 16 year olds. Yes, it's a culture, girls actually look like that. But they're used to it. It doesn't trigger pedophilia in them. It does in us tho... or at least it makes us afraid that it would do. If you're an 18 year old 200 pound american, used to seeing 6 foot girls everyday and you go to a japanese highschool, you're gonna have a very weird walk...

And lolicon (lolita imagery) is quite old in Japan. The trick in protecting real children is to paint them as far removed from reality as possible. A G cup on a 9 year old is physically impossible. A japanese dude who reads that stuff will most likely find 18 year olds attractive rather than 9 year olds. Again, it works for them... might be a problem for us. So don't be too quick to judge their "culture".

I guess I wasn't paying attention to that point. Oh well, I guess that happens when I go to bed so late.

I never understood the "children" part of the insults to DoA.

Apparently people don't realize the youngest female character in the game is 16 (Ayane), which is perfectly acceptable (and legal) in Japan.

Thats not a child.

I just wish these developers would realize there are other fetishes than just huge tits and young-looking women.

Do you have any idea how excited I was when Juri was announced for SSFIV? And Ibuki and Makoto? and Elena and Christie in SFxT, as well as Asuka's alt costume?

Do you see the common thread there?

FYI, I fully admit that today's episode is ridiculous and pointless. It was, however, incredible fun to record and edit. Hopefully it's fun for you to watch. <3
It was hilarious, but I just don't get your argument. Whats the difference between people getting off to those other things but not to the DoA girls with their sentient breasts? I understand the parts about Team Ninja casting the blame on other people, totally agree on that part, but the sex issue, I'm having trouble coming up with a real difference.

Applying a number to a character does not automatically make them that age in the eyes of the viewer.

Our perception of age is based upon appearance, and if all the characters appear younger than they actually are, and are being shown off in a sexual way.

It's just a bit odd really.

Not directly saying "They're kids", but, I'm just telling you how people could see it that way.
