ok so i just got my AA and i need a decent paying job to help support myself while i get my bachelors, and unfortunatly i can't start going to my university until next spring semester (impacted school). Unfortunatly i was never taught how exactly to go about finding a job outside of retail, fast food and theaters, and i feel like craigslist and monster isn't really helping. Any advice?

I haven't had much luck myself, but I will say to stay away from applying for any local government positions first and foremost. I once applied for a 911 position and didn't hear from them until exactly 1 year later. Yeah, thanks for that.

There's this great site I found which I will PM to you. No offense to any other job seekers out there.

I worked with this girl who was constantly getting emails from a job agency. I have to say, personally, stay away from Manpower. They make you fill out on their website your geographic preferences, which I thought was cool. Lo and behold, each office operates independently. I went into one location, mentioned the geographic preference thing and they gave me a "WTF are you talking about?" Companies with broken websites = really, really bad sign.

If you like your local Manpower office then go with that. Otherwise there are other organizations like Randstad [http://us.randstad.com/]. Last time I went to one they made me take a PC competency test, which isn't a problem for me, except they were using Office 97 or some crap like that. There was no time limit however, and if things haven't changed, I was able to make as many mistakes as I needed. Seriously though, that stupid test...who the hell does mail merge in Word any more? Did people ever???

Good luck, and watch for my PM.

Apply directly and in person if you can. Makes a much bigger impression than just another CV in an email.

Use the career center of your old campus to try and locate a job or internship with flexible hours. Target does a lot of managerial internships that don't require any experience to be a part of and they pay generally better than any retail job does. Also, don't ever give up on looking for a job. The market is really rough right now for any kind of entry position (one of the faults of a prior generations short shortsightedness in addition to the recession). I'm a computer science major at the moment and it is pure hell trying to get an internship in the field that matters, and I can't imagine my post graduation search for long term employment going much better.
