If having a body double bothers him, couldn't he have just done the nude scenes himself? It's what 90% of the female cast have to do, as far as I can tell. Frankly, GoT needs more male nudity, and considering the fans' fondness for Mr. Harington, I don't think any of them would have complained.

As Harington explained: "Everyone always says you must have done it on set horse riding or running across glaciers or something cool...I was an idiot"

I heard he was meant to be a bit of a knob from someone working on it. This interview does not disprove that.

I believe the double is primarily for action scenes, the actor's in good shape but that's not necessarily actually the same thing as being athletic or skilled enough for some of those fight scenes. Also, I believe that at one point he was injured.

This isn't unusual, stunt-work and stage combat are an extremely technical and focused specialty to the point that few of the specialists are actors to begin with, and those that are are usually obsessive enough about the technical parts to prefer not to waste their time being the guy doing the lines and brooding at the camera as well.

I heard him give an interview for Pompeii where he suggested that he did his own sword fight scenes at least.

Oh, I know all that, you don't generally want the expensive, big-name stars doing stunts and fight work which could get them injured. That stuff often gets handled by the second unit anyway, so the stunt guys can do the fighting while the actors are elsewhere doing the acting.

That's why I talked about body doubles rather than stunt doubles. You don't need a stunt double for a nude scene, unless you're having particularly acrobatic sex. Like I said, most of the female cast don't get doubles for their nude scenes, and considering that Jon's only had one, very brief nude scene to date, I'm still not sure why Harington couldn't have done it himself, even with a dodgy ankle.
