Josh Brolin Rumored As Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy

Sources for Latino Review confirmed that the True Grit and No Country for Old Men star will provide the voice for the Mad Titan in the upcoming Marvel movie.

The hype train has been building for Guardians of the Galaxy, and while <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/134611-Watch-the-New-Full-Length-Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-Trailer-Here>the latest trailer finally gave us a closer look at some of the cast, one purple-skinned menace was still nowhere to be seen - the Mad Titan, Thanos.

However, if sources from LatinoReview.com are true, we finally have an actor to portray the Guardians antagonist: Josh Brolin.

Last seen giving the audience a sinister grin at the end of The Avengers, Thanos has long been pegged to play a much larger role in future Marvel movies, largely due to the prominent role the Infinity Gems (or objects very similar to them) have been taking in the studio's recent films.

As most comic fans will tell you, the gems and Thanos are tied closely together in Marvel lore, as the villain once united them together to create the Infinity Gauntlet. He then proceeded to use the artifact to wipe out half the life in the galaxy, mainly to try and win the affections of the physical embodiment of Death herself.

Latino Review mentions an article by Guardians director James Gunn on a scene with Thanos on a rocket throne during the movie's third act. This suggests that the time was right to finally cast an actor to voice Thanos' lines, with the nod given to Brolin.

So, we finally have our Mad Titan. What do you guys think? Is it another inspired choice by Marvel's studio, or a disaster waiting to happen?

I can't recall seeing this guy in a movie. Was he already playing Thanos at the end of Avengers as an uncredited cameo or something, or is he new to the role?

I think this hurts my feelings. I should be commenting because I want to, not because you want me to.

Well, he's got the square jaw for the job. I suspect that his voice will be so altered that it'll be hard to recognize the person behind the character. Thanos will likely be given this deep, gravelly voice typical of larger-than-life characters like Treebeard, Chronos in Wrath of the Titans, or any one of Bayformers. In fact, they should put Kevin Grevioux behind the voice, no alteration required.

Pretty sure no one played Thanos in Avengers (except maybe for motion capture and animation reference). He never speaks in that movie so there would be no need to actually cast him at the time.

Oh yeah. I thought he had some generic snazzy one-liner that I had forgotten about. Thanks.

A minion said that to attack the avengers would be to 'court death itself', and then Thanos just smiled.

That minion was played by Alexis Denisof, from Angel and How I Met Your Mother. The character was credited as The Other, I believe.

First, I'd say that everything I've seen Latin Review predict about the Marvel Movies has come to fruition, so this is likely true. Second, Brolin is versatile and Joss Whedon - who likely approves the choice or cast him outright - is spectacular at choosing people to play roles, so I'm good with this move.

Mmmm.. El Mayimbe has a pretty good track record, but some of their stuff hasn't quite made it to reality yet. His Planet Hulk prediction for instance..

Damn it, I was hoping to get you with that.

Anyway... it seems that we have a good actor playing a character I know nothing about, and.... there's not much else to say.
I think its fitting, and may make that character all the more interesting when he finally takes center stage.

I still think it should have gone to Brandon Small.

Hearing Nathan Explosion's growl coming out of Thanos' mouth seem to be more fitting.

He could be okay, it all comes down to his voice as from the way it looked Thanos is mostly going to be a CGI job. I'd imagine "who is playing Thanos" has been a "secret" until this late date (right before release) because it didn't much matter since they really didn't need a veteran actor to play him, but I suppose having one does not hurt.

That would be epic!

But yeah, the oldest Goonie as the voice of the Mad Titan, I'm fine with it.

I wonder what he's going to be like monologing about his sexual attraction to the personification of death.
