The Star: setting the benchmark for journalistic integrity...

Also, what he said is actually covered in Complaint Commissions Code of Practice.

Enjoy unemployment, Mr "Journalist"

This is a scary part of the population: For Americans, imagine the British version of white trash - then imagine a section of the white trash who find "Elvis is alive" stories hard to understand. This is the market for the Daily Star.

People in the video game industry are going to far exploiting the death and suffering for money. What's next?, games about world war II?.

Trivun: the Sun true? Not likely. It's just a guilty as the Star for making up stuff. A recent article on a footballer's so called conversion to Islam and idolising of hate cleric Abu Hamza being a high profile case in point. None of that was true but they reported on it as if it were. Okay maybe not as guilty, but still certainly guilty of making stuff up and outright racism, and they are guilty of "churnalism" the act of taking other stories, rumours and general hyperbole and turning it into articles without fact checking them.

The Sun can stand up as one of our better tabloids, simply because it's not as bad as the rest. It's not the Daily Mail with it's bad science, thinly veiled racism and badly hidden homophobia, or the Express with it's bad science, thinly veiled racism and badly hidden homophobia, or the Star with it's.... you get the idea. Funnily enough though the Express and Star are both owned by one Richard Desmond, he of porn rag and porn channel fame. No wonder then that the star has a nipple count, eh?

DSM: As pointed out earlier the PCC won't do jack, this guy will still have a job tomorrow. The PCC is entirely toothless, cannot levy fines, cannot do anything other than ask the Star to print a retraction. Which according to the PCC's code must be in due prominence. i.e. on the same page or earlier. However in practice any retraction will be tucked away in a small box somewhere it won't be noticed. That is if we get a retraction at all. The PCC is currently chaired by Paul Dacre, editor in chief of the Daily Mail and nobody finds this to be a conflict of interest.

To end, I give you the Daily Mail song.

And yes this is the kind of thing our tabloids put out on a daily basis.

Well, this is as accurate as it gets.

The only reason the star is bought is because of the tatty bojangles it put on the cover. Any stories in there can't be believed.

Nothing like tabloid journalism. I find it hard to believe that this fellow has the gall to essentially say that adult gamers have no life outside of gaming. That just shows how narrow his view is, and I find it truely sad.

He does realize that females play games too right? I don't get the whole idea of making up statements and then covering them with threats. It just doesn't work that way.......

Let me remind you that this is a "real journalist" speaking and although the Star is a notoriously trashy rag, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a certain minimal level of integrity in its reporting, even if only to the point of not passing off outright lies as real news and then making fun of people who call them on it. Is that really so baffling, Jerry?
So is this standpoint coupled with the avatar to free Conrad Black supposed to be ironic then?

Pretty sure this whole thing's falls foul of the Press Complaints Commission's Code of Practice [http://www.pcc.org.uk/cop/practice.html]. Especially part 5i
In cases involving personal grief or shock, enquiries and approaches must be made with sympathy and discretion and publication handled sensitively. This should not restrict the right to report legal proceedings, such as inquests.
Someone file a complaint.
Entirely correct. It also breaches Section 1(i) and Section 1(ii). I've sent in my complaint as well as a screenshot copy of the article now. I hope others do the same.

He reports lies and makes fun of people calling him out on it? Well, I suppose he'll have a primetime show on FOXnews any day now...

Just thought I would post this I know I have been Ninja'd but hey, from the P.C.C's website!

1

Accuracy

i) The Press must take care not to publish inaccurate, misleading or distorted information, including pictures.

ii) A significant inaccuracy, misleading statement or distortion once recognised must be corrected, promptly and with due prominence, and - where appropriate - an apology published.

iii) The Press, whilst free to be partisan, must distinguish clearly between comment, conjecture and fact.

iv) A publication must report fairly and accurately the outcome of an action for defamation to which it has been a party, unless an agreed settlement states otherwise, or an agreed statement is published.

2

Opportunity to reply

A fair opportunity for reply to inaccuracies must be given when reasonably called for.

I've emailed Rockstar and asked them to sue the shit out of him, but it can be cited as a parody and wasn't printed.

It sounds like that journalist from "The Wire," Scott Templeton, except more unbelievable. Then again, it was a tabloid rag a half step above reporting on alien abductions so it's not that shocking of a revelation. It was our turn to get screwed and screwed we got.

Everyone has already said enough. He's a douche, this so called "journalist" thinks he's smarter than we gamers... writing such a retard "story", supposedly not even knowing this so called "game" even existed... and worst of all, everyone who doesn't play games (or was living under a rock for the last 20 years) will belive his story... this guy is just baffling.

Scott Templeton at least did his best to spin the facts to his advantage. This guy on the other hand wasn't even trying, probably not expecting anyone to call him out on his BS as he doubted anyone significant would even be reading that paper.
