Journey is Coming to PS4 - Free For Whoever Bought it on PS3

Journey on PS4 will be free for anyone who has a valid licence of it on their PS3.

will be available for download on July 21 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/journey].

But wait, there's more! Journey on PS4 will support cross-buy, meaning if you already purchased a digital copy for your PS3, you'll be able to download the PS4 version absolutely free of charge. Huzzah!

Additionally, for the truly hardcore Journey fan, you can pre-order the game's soundtrack on vinyl [http://store.iam8bit.com/products/journey-vinyl-soundtrack-2xlp], for $35. Pre-orders should ship by the end of next month.

This is all good news for Journey and PS4 fans. Too many times this generation we've seen developers take advantage of the transition in hardware to "develop" remastered definitive editions [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/editorials/reviews/10937-Tomb-Raider-Definitive-Edition-Review-Tressed-Up] of last-generation titles, effectively re-selling the exact same game on the new consoles. Remastering Journey for PS4 and giving it away for free to Journey PS3 owners is something I would have thought to be a no-brainer, but unfortunately is not exactly the status quo.

Happy to hear. May not be backwards compatibility, but it's close. Glad Journey gets to live on as a current gen game, as the multiplayer is a big component to the experience.

Thanks so much for telling me about the Vinyl LPs, I don't have a record player but now I must get one JUST for the LPs... which I preordered immediately

This is great since the game is multiplayer focused. Also didn't this game bankrupt thatgamecompany despite selling well. It couldn't have been that inexpensive, weird that they would have it be free to those who already own it since they will probably be the majority who play it again on PS4. Good for us though. Its a much better way to handle an update of a game like this.

I guess you could say that it took a journey to the PS4...

*ahem* Other than that, looks like the feels will also be remastered as well...

Kind of. Apparently they're still going and teasing a new game for the future (seemingly independent from Sony). They NEARLY went bankrupt before launch, but Journey sold fast and well enough to keep the studio together.

I'm curious as to how much the remaster could improve things, I still hold that Journey is one of the best looking games I've seen. But yeah, happy that more people will get a chance to play it.

I like the idea, but does it require PS Plus to get the multiplayer experience? Part of what made Journey great was the online element, and that's going to be lost while Sony are locking multiplayer behind a paywall.

I'm curious too. PS3 had free multiplayer stuff with PS+ being optional, but PS4 doesn't have any online multiplayer without the subscription rolling. Would be very sad to see multiplayer removed.
I'm still hoping for removal of that paywall altogether since I think that was the PS3's main reason for success, but I won't hold my breath.

You know, this is a game I bought and never played. I keep meaning to. Maybe this will give me an excuse.
