JRPG's have alwase had interesting monsters.
Giant bears, ghost's that drop food, metal soilders wearing metal armor, hot women(no joke), and other twists on the typical everyday item(IE: mutant toster(no joke)
but have you ever come across an enemy that was just to cute, hot, or just plain wierd to kill?

I remember playing tails of phantasia and my sisters would watch me.
some times i would get in a battle and imediantly they would all go awwwww when they saw the fuzzy haired monster move across the screen, then they would hit me when i would distroy it.
i would exsplane that every time it blinked i lost about 20% of my hp but they would always say "so!!! it was adorable!!!!! YOUR MEAN!!!!" sigh......

If it bites me, I strike back.

NO Exceptions.

Especially if it looks at me funny.
And this - Sometimes things are cuter above the mantelpiece.

There are enemies in Eternal Sonata called Very Very Empty's . They look like little walking seeds. Too bad they have to die.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Ive only found a few monsters in jrpgs that I couldnt bring myself to kill, I would either do the talk thing(in persona) or run

Are you insane?

That's like "The EU: Too powerful to bomb?"

^ The answer to that slightly controversial question is NO. Any JRPG monster, just the like the EU, needs to be brutally murdered in the sickest way imaginable....

.....or at least with a braver.

Oh, just because it's cute means it doesn't deserve to die? I'm the opposite, I take the "Agent J" route when dealing with enemies. If there's a herd of fluffy bunnies walking around in an open plane, paying no attention to predators, and it bares down on me instead of running away, damn straight I'm going to kill it. For all I know it could be a giant space cockroach.

All RPGs need to be non-linear? Since when?
Well, the original templates for RPGs gave the player some input as to how you progressed. Do you fight the dragon or leave the baby to die? Do you storm the enemy castle or sneak in? JRPGs tend to do most, or more often all of the decisions for you. There may be some exceptions, but the whole genre cares more about emo stories and boring plot exposition than player interaction and involving gameplay.

Since forever? Interactive storyline is what makes a game an RPG, without that, you don't have an RPG. If the storyline is linear and non-interactive, the game's not an RPG.

A JRPG is like an RTS where you play as one unit and have no control over any other units - it's a complete contradiction. It's like playing a game of DnD where the DM doesn't let you do anything but make combat rolls.

Oblivion's not really an RPG either though, is it, you just have a short, linear, non-interactive storyline. The game's an adventure/sandbox/whatever game, kinda like Far Cry 2.

That's your definition of an RPG. When did you become the God of Gaming who dishes out definitions for all us lesser peons?

The 'original template' of an RPG was pen and paper. We've rather advanced in technology since then.

i get it.
anyway the term RPG can be interprted as a single pre-set role
or a chose a role playing game.
sometimes the player needs to be quite and let the story do the talking and sometimes the game needs to give the player compleat mastery.
it just depends, but both are enjoyable.
