I proudly am the only person on the planet who likes the Stallone version.

Read the comments, everybody likes the Stallone version. Also, dear god your post count!
Fair enough. Admittedly I didn't read the posts in the thread before I posted. I just watched the video. But going by general Internet opinion; the majority don't like the Stallone version.

Also yes dear god my post count!

It looks cheesy and stupid. I didn't see one scene in that trailer that would make me want to go and see it. I predict lousy reviews.

Stallone version rocked.

God, first Total Recall gets turned into shlock, now Judge Dredd, and soon, Starship Troopers.

What has Hollywood got against cheesy B-Movie Science Fiction from the 80s/90s?
You mean what have cheesy B-Movie Science Fiction movies from the 80s/90s got against comics and books?

The irony is that those movies - Total Recall and Judge Dredd especially - already were shlock. It's these new versions that are trying to add this level of bland depth to it, totally undermining the fun campy nature of the originals.

Not that there's anything wrong with trying new things with a franchise, but this new Dredd looks terible. The new Total Recall atleast has capable actors in it, though it'll still probably end up a more flaccid version of Minority Report.
Total Recall just looks bleak compared to the original Arnie romp. Maybe closer to the source material, but it's still looking like Yahtzee's grey sludge.
That's because it's impossible to rival Paul Verhoeven's romper-stomping talent for violence.

I don't like the look of that "soon" in front of Starship Troopers. Do they have to, really?

Anyway, this trailer isn't really inspiring me. Nor is the tagline "To take down an empire, he must go all the way up". Is that all? I don't suppose this building has a lift by any chance?

Here's another trailer if you wanted to update it. It's from Machinima, so I doubt it will get deleted.

My thoughts? Is that fucking Cersei?

Well it looks like I'll be the only person in this forum to say I'm really excited for it. Luckily there a few more positive threads on other sites I've seen.

I never watched the Stallone movie, I only know of the select famous scenes and the story, and I never even knew it was based on a comic book untill I heard of this film.

To list off what has me excited,

Lena Headey, Cersei as the main villian, you've won right from the start.

I've always been a big fan of Karl Urban actually. I've liked him in just about everything he's done, and he never seems to get any credit for it.

Karl Urban's passion for this project is actually a big reason my interest is peaked actually aswell, he is apparently a huge fan of the comics and wants to tell a Judge Dredd story right. When a creator of a project has true passion, it shows, and it makes the product more enjoyable. I hope that will shine through when I view the film.

The screenwriter for both 28 Days Later AND Sunshine is writing this, I love both of those films like no ones buisness.

I want this film in my face!

Watching that trailer made me all kinds of sad. At least the old and LAAAAWsome version tried to have some semblance to the comic. It even had an ABC warrior, made me smile. :)
The old version wasn't "good" by any stretch, but it was entertaining ass all hell. This just looks bland and dull.

...oh an yeah, that new Judge suit looks ridiculous. As I write this, I remember that the old judge wore something akin to a spandex suit with accessories, but it was cool damnit! >_<

[EDIT]
Also...this:
Glorious... just glorious.

So, the movie is coming out late this year and Lionsgate doesn't even want us to see the trailer yet?

I'm sure this is going to work out wonderfully for them.

Not really bud, quite a few of us liked that film.

On Topic....

New one looks ..... average. I'm sure some people will enjoy it. If I get drunk enough I might give it a watch myself but still ... average.

Until that gets fixed, I can't tell you. ;)
Sorry about that, anyway here's another link [http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/Wolvie09/news/?a=62118]where you can see it.
Until then, I'll just gonna wait until it is officially released on youtube.
Again sorry for the inconvenience.

I see a lot of....brown. Brown and black. What happened to colors? The Stallone movie worked for all it's absurdity, but this just....like the concept seems fine. Story works out from what I can see. (though I do wish the female rookie would get a helmet. It just seems silly for her not to have one when Dredd is constantly wearing his.) It just seems bland. Like you wanna ask the producers and director if they're even trying here. No one can really replace Stallone, but I think they could have gone for something other than someone trying to knock of Christian Bale's Bat-gravel.
Well from what I know the biggest mistake that Stallone version made was it showed Dredd's face even though in the comics he never showed it at all so there's that.

It seems that gravelly voices is a requirement for badass movie heroes today.
Or as hipsters will say "Gravelly voices are so mainstream".

Looks good, I don't know why people are complaining as this EXACTLY what comics do all the time, different writers and artists setting different tones and if you believe Dredd doesn't do serious, then I suggest you read the story America.

It's gonna be the Batman debate all over again, there is no definitive Batman because it always depends on which writer is writing him.

Although I do have to say I'm not overly excited, but I approach with careful optimism. If it entertains it's done all it needs to do.

So not a remake, just a new writer and who knows, the whole thing could be set up to be a satire on the modern comic book movie in a typically 2000AD twist.

As for the Total Recall remake, given how far the original strayed from Phillip K. Dicks short story, I'm willing to give it a fair shake.

PS: When is Nikolai Danté getting his film?

Not quite the only one. As a big fan of the comics, I'm massively hyped for this film. I would have liked to see a bit more neon crazy in th trailer though, the look of Megacity 1 was one of the things the 95 film did best. I'll be disappointed if the city jjust looks generic near future.

As I said in my opening post, I wish this movie will be successful so we can prove that movies based on comics that's neither from Marvel nor DC could work and sadly by reading the comments that followed and like you said most of our fellow Escapists are are already condemning the movie to be bad and will be a flop by just watching the trailer.

But never fear from what I heard this movie impressed a lot of people in Cannes and Cannes people are very hard to impress, so there's hope in there.

Also I think its time for Karl Urban to be respected and gets his due for being a fine actor. Yes he did appear in hit movies but he is always a supporting character (namely Star Trek and LOTR trilory) and the ones that he is the main character/protagonist is always a flop (Doom, Pathfinder) so I'm really really hoping for this movie to be good.

He was pretty damn good in Red as well.
Yes, I kinda liked that movie but again he is supporting not the lead.
