Remember to put down your shield in combat when you don't need to block, it will increase the stamina recovery a lot, and never hit an NPC for the fun of it, it will cost you dearly.

When backstabbing, circle a targeted opponent without blocking. You cannot backstab with the shield up.

When parrying, don't look at your parry animation, just press the button as soon as the enemies weapon starts approaching your face. Also, you have a bit of time after the parry to do a riposte, so you can step forward to get into a better position, switch a weapon, or two-hand a weapon for more riposte damage.

You can parry and backstab humanoid enemies who are either your size or about twice as tall. You cannot parry or backstab non-humanoid enemies or gigantic ones.

Why 23? As far as I know, stamina and equip burden improvements are comparable to those up to 40. I think bleed resistance slows down a little, but that's no reason to forfeit stamina.
I fucked that up. I think I was thinking of Attunement.
Ah, now it makes sense. Yeah, definitely wouldn't bother with over 23 Attunement.
