KABOOM! Navy Gets A Laser Gun, Starts Blowing Things Up

Though, I do have to wonder how susceptible Munitions (I'm talking Cannons/Artilery here, not missiles) are to those energy levels.. But remember, Artillery/cannons operate at speeds faster than missiles, and lasers would be a 'questionable' defense against Artillery/cannon fire. (and I would really hate to see the laser, that you can shoot out of earth's atmosphere, around the solar system, and hit a target behind the horizon and still destroy it!)

Still though, converting to 100% laser is still a foolish choice.

Artillery isn't used much in modern navies, mostly due to having limited range. The biggest US Naval gun is 155 mm and I imagine most navies don't have anything bigger/longer range. Not to mention the path of artillery can't be corrected in flight unlike a missile.

Ok the laser is cool and all...
But then there is the revelation that the Navy is controlling it with a souped up xbox controller.
That is what surprised me. Us PC Gamer Master Race people should be up in arms.

Also, I would be impressed if they showed me a video of that thing working in the rain.
You'll be surprised how much military hardware stops working in the rain.
