Ken Levine Wants You To Stop Staring At His Big Sisters

BioShock Infinite creator Ken Levine wishes the internet would stop staring at Elizabeth's funbags.

Much like its predecessors, BioShock Infinite [http://www.amazon.com/BioShock-Infinite-Xbox-360/dp/B003O6EB70/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325715195&sr=8-1] promises a richly bizarre alternate-history setting packed with fascinating characters struggling to survive in a meltdown of philosophical extremism. There's also at least one pair of really great cans, belonging to the heroine Elizabeth - the Little Sister, all grown up. Despite being the man more or less responsible for Elizabeth and her fantastic sweater puppies, Levine says he hasn't put a whole lot of thought into the matter and he wishes the rest of the internet was a little less hung up on them. It. Whatever.

"In terms of her body type, I think certainly people on the Internet have spent way more time thinking about Elizabeth's chest than I have. It's something I've barely thought about," he said in an interview in the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine.

"It's disappointing when [Elizabeth's chest] becomes a focus for conversation because that was never my intent and it's sort of a disincentive - I'd much rather talk about what she's going through as a person, but whatever, they have the right to shout out whatever they want," he continued, suggesting that he's thought about it a lot more than he's letting on. Furthermore... hey. Hey! My eyes are up here, jerkwad.

"To me, the most important thing with Elizabeth was just honestly her eyes because, you know, they're somewhat exaggerated and the reason for that is because there's so much expression you can do there, with her eyes, and you see her often at a great distance," he said. "I've spent way more time thinking about her eyes than her chest because eyes show a ton of expression, and you see her at a great distance. AI characters get very, very small, very, very quickly so you need to be able to recognize her silhouette, the shape of her body. Her color scheme's actually very simple, you know, the sort of two tone colour look - that's all to do with this sort of exaggeration."

And disappointing though it may be for some of you, those fabulous big daddies may yet be toned down for the final release. Levine said that as the creative process evolves, Elizabeth herself may undergo a few changes as well. "I haven't made the definitive statement on it," he said. "I certainly don't spend as much time thinking about this issue as the internet does, and I'm not sure what that says about the internet but, you know."

Oh yeah. We know. BioShock Infinite is currently slated to come out later this year for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Well, the game hasn't gone gold yet, if Kevin is really that hung up about The Internet and it's insatiable urge for more bewbs, he's still more than capable covering those puppies with a different top. It's not a big issue really and harping on it like that seems a bit immature on his part, especially when (as he said) he can still change the design. I do like her eyes though, those are great.

Hmm? Is that writing I see in this article. Sorry, I was just staring at both of those big, shiny... eyes. And her cans.

On topic, if you don't want people to look don't make them so prominent you moron.

Dude we should be able to wear what we want. If men can't control themselves it isn't our fault, we have every right to complain if a guy is creeping on us.
I never understood this argument. If I had skin-tight trousers on and every lady was looking at my junk, I'd consider that to be my damn fault. Sure, I may love to wear some skin-tight trousers every now and again, because I just love the way they craddle my package, but I'd understand that it'd attract attention. If I was uncomfortable with that, I'd take them off.

[sup]To clarify, I'd be very uncomfortable with that.[/sup]

I agree, the eyes do have a certain something about them.

Yes. Precisely. Elizabeth is not a real person, her body was created to specifications, it's not like they hired an actress and she happened to have big boobs. If the internet is into it it's because they are too freakin' large. Maybe not videogame character large, but certainly porn star large.

They put fart gas in my Saints Row, so please take the hueg bewbs out of my Bioshock!

Well Ken, you guys could have made her a "plain jane," average looking woman. Any credible narrative reason why you chose to make her a busty babe instead?

Protip: If you don't want people staring at your female character's breasts, don't put them in a bodice.

An item of clothing designed to enchance the appearance of the busom.

Maybe they should of cover up her clevage abit more. I mean yes I like her design but her top is exposing slightly (still better compared to usual female character clothing).
I do got to agreed that her eyes is her strong point.

And Mass Effect's Miranda wishes you could stop staring at her bottom.

Except that's why it's there, why all the controversy is there and it wouldn't have sold quite as well without it.

So why do people still get upset when a blatantly packaged sexual reference is still a blatantly packaged sexual reference?

Because you can't sell a new idea to a market that buys only from old ideas. And whose the one shaping the market? The people who bring out a repackaged old idea every year.

This is actually a very good point.

It's one of those things up there with women who complain about men staring at their breasts and yet insist on wearing figure enhancing and skin revealing clothing.

His arguement for why she's shaped the way she is because apparantly you need to be able to recognise her silhouette at a great distance (believe it or not, and I've been known to lie, I have managed to spot my girlfriend out in a crowd just by looking for the shape of her breasts on many occcasions) but that is pretty much him saying 'I not only meant for you to look at her chest but that is going to be the first thing you identify her by'.

At the end of the day if he's satisfied with the design he's created then the perverse sexual lust of internet dwellers shouldn't really matter to him.

You'll get her boobs when you pry them from my cold, dead hands!

...

Wait, that didn't come out right at all.

OT: You had to foresee this, my friend. I mean, just look at her. It's the internet.

Really? The internet is THAT focused on her breasts?

Not on the bloody regenerating health and apparent 2-weapon limit - WHAT BULLSHIT!

Google search of "bioshock infinite breasts" and all the relevant results are precisely about Ken Levine taking about her breasts, he claims not to have given them much thought yet seems to have added more to the subject than anyone else.

Seriously, of all the inane crap the internet talks about this hasn't been one of them. On escapist forums where we are not above devoting 15 pages of arguing to the cover art of a 17 year old Elder Scrolls game for the cleavage present, we never got round to Elizabeth's quite conservative cleavage.

What we have been discussing about Bioshock (including infinite) sex hasn't come up.

And i'm sorry if people haven't been talking about Elizabeth as a character but the general public has NOT had an opportunity to play the game yet, so how can they know her?

Uh-huh. Yeah. Sure.
...

What was this story about again? Oh, right.

Look, if you don't want people staring at boobs, well basically do what Daystar said.

Well, of course I'm paying attention to them.

...her. I'm paying attention to her.

[small]I would say "she could just close her jacket" but then I realize that doesn't actually seem physically feasible.[/small]

As much as I agree his point, he can't really expect little more.

Consumers don't have the game yet, so any emotion supposedly meant to be portrayed by those big blues is completely lost by virtue of lack of context.

I'm certain that once people are able to learn of her personality more focus will be given on such.

Although he should be grateful for any and all attention his game and world get, irrespective if it is what he intended.

As for Elizabeth, Well I'm not keen on her costume as it is, If it's meant to be a victorian type era she wouldn't be showing that much skin anyways.

It just sounds like Ken is trying to turn it into a 'thing' to sell more games al'a Lara Croft.

Those are a fantastic set of big, magnificent...eyes.

To be fair, it is their design, so they can't quite easily change it if they don't want them talking about the "Big Sisters" so to steal a line from the title speak.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It's kind of hard to criticize people for staring at them when YOUR FUCKING DESIGN TEAM MADE THE OUTFIT THAT WAY! Dear Buddha Levine, that has to be your stupidest comment ever. Give the man a medal for hitting a logical lowpoint
