Here's the article from Slate:

http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2012/02/07/runescape_dutch_teen_convicted_of_theft_for_stealing_amulet_and_shield_in_virtual_world_.html

Summed up for people with linkophobia:

The Dutch Supreme Court charged a 13 year old with theft after he stole a shield and amulet from another player... on Runescape. I just don't even know what to say, I hate ninjas as much as the next guy, but I'd never take it to court...

So what are your thoughts, was this a justified case, or is the Supreme Court full of monkeys with no idea what they're doing?

The guy who wrote that article apparently didn't understand what actually happened. You can read it here (courtesy of one of the commenters): http://www.rechtspraak.nl/Organisatie/Hoge-Raad/Supreme-court/Summaries-of-some-important-rulings-of-the-Supreme-Court/Pages/Extractfromthejudgment.aspx

The kid used violence to force the victim to give him items from the game. That's not the same as just ninja-ing or scamming someone.

He actually physically forced the victim to hand over the stuff, and he's also being charged with assault over it. Seems reasonable to me.

Damn, I know to check my sources too but it's always the one you don't that bites back eh? After reading your link it's clear that the case is more than justified and I honestly don't feel bad about the prosecution tossing in theft just to add another rock to the pile.

Apparently they've solved every single court case in the Netherlands. That's the only way this could be in the courts.

I was about to say, "whoa, I scammed some people back in the day, I would've been arrested", but yeah, that's thug behavior, not exposing others stupidity for ill means.
