Back in my day, 40k was played with a handful of metal miniatures and weird dice.

Nowdays, it's all giant boxes of finecast rubbish, ordinary d6s, and the fluff is terrible.

Back in my day...It was cool to recreate "moments" from your favorite anime using nothing but the socks on your feet...Ignorance was a gift, not a privilege...Imaginary friends were real and friendly....It was never meta to burst into a song leading to a pre-choreograph chorus line...The MPAA had a great, simple rating system...There was such a thing as "Adulthood" in general...Inflation only happened when people were receiving more money than giving more money...Other than that, back in my day, there was only one way to grow up as it was written in the history books of old...

Ha! Monty Python's got this topic covered:

Every generation thinks that the following ones are lazy, feckless, self indulgent little bastards.
...Apart from my generation. We were held up as paragons of virtue by our parents, and every generation before or since. Shame about the lot that followed us.

Bah, in my day we didn't have cellphones! If you wanted to go to your friend's after school, you actually had to SET UP A MEETING! Or call them THE DAY BEFORE AND ASK! These damn kids nowadays!

Back in my day, video games were a source of escapism. I'd freaking roleplay stories about Donkey and Diddy Kong while playing on the SNES with a childhood friend of mine. We took barely fleshed-out stories and made worlds out of them! Nowadays, if video games aren't tackling depression, the developer's fleeting sense of self-worth, social issues, anxiety problems or political concerns, they're not worth talking about! And now the kids want the lore force-fed to them! They want Codexes and in-game novels and realistic NPC schedules!

Back in my day, we made up all that shit for ourselves, in the back of our heads!

Back in my day, mobile phones would last for several days and weeks on one charge. Now they can't last 5 mins. Well, iPhones.

Speaking of phones, back in my day we didn't have "phone addictions" were people cant put their fucking phones down for 2 mins without checking it. In school, they apparently let kids have their phones in class and at work too. It's just a phone!!

Music. Music was shit in my day but today's music is lazy shit. Just grade A pure lazy. So are the dance craze today is lazy as fuck. "Whip" and "nae nae" is just stupid. And SAMPLES. New tracks in pops are just samples of classics that they butcher to pieces.

Damn kids! Apple Babies.

While I'm sure there's not going to be much people here of this generation (I'm only 23 even), this is what this thread reminds me of:

$200 smartphone? They don't want that. They want $600 smartphone that they will lose or break 3 months down the line, An Apple laptop that cost over $1000 that they will mess up in 6 months, shoes that cost over $100, they don't pay for the internet nor phone bill, but complain how, "OMG I AM SO POOR", but still want more more more more more from mommy and daddy. THEY DONT UNDERSTAND THE VALUE OF MONEY!!

Little Shits.

35 as of this year. And I can't say that in my day kids didn't cuss, they just didn't around their parents (in my case until we got caught and given a strange stern look). I saw the NES born in the US, dealt with swapping all sorts of floppy disks, punch cards and the like to get a game to work, learning dos commands, memmaker just to get a high memory siphoning game to work, oh the advent of the 3D accelerator and SLi, Half-Life, Counterstrike, Team Fortress Quake, the advent OF multiplayer online gaming as a whole, part of the first MMO, part of the first pretty (sort of) looking MMO (Ultima Online), the first 3D FPS (Quake), DOOM on DWANGO, Diablo LAN's, Diablo II battle.net... and so on. Oh yeah, internet since 12-13 years old and before it was popular.

You want a list of "I had it hard when", I almost fit the bill when it comes to gaming. Gaming is how I became a PC tech at age 15 making damn good money. 20 years of it and I'm pretty well able to fix all but soldering a motherboard back together that cracked (haven't done it but a friend of mine who is a damn wizard with solder managed to do it somehow). Point is all the adversity I met while gaming (not even including the improvisation skills that D&D did for me, learning to think on my feet about situations) has basically benefited me.

Kids these days have it a lot easier than I did, but the tools are still there for them to learn if they pick it up. A lot of information available to them, so long as they choose to learn. I chose to learn myself, it was there in my grasp but I had access to it. Other kids my age didn't have the same advantages. But the same scenario isn't really possible today, if one wants to know about PC's and how to build/troubleshoot them it takes very little effort to get online and search. The adversity does exist in other ways, but being an adult I don't know the pressures that currently exist.

I couldn't say today is any easier than my day because I am not encountering these issues for the first time in this time period. But there are some things that are much easier than today's kids make it out to be.

You guys have it so easy! Back in my day, we were all single cellular organisms!

Now look at how many you have, you're wasting them because you don't know what it means to use what you have to its absolute max!

I bet you don't even know how it feels to reproduce asexually. Something that's been lost on this generation
A whole cell?! It was alright for some! Back in my day, we was only inanimate chemical goop. I would have given anything to undergo abiogenesis! You don't know how easy you had it!

I do wonder what kids in 40 or even 50 years will be like.

You'll tell them what life before the internet and mobile phones was like and it'll probably blow their minds.

Inanimate chemical goop!? Hah! What we would have given just to have some organic molecules to work with! Back in my day we sat in the middle of a star preforming fusion with each other, just to make something bloody worth while out of ourselves! Bah kids these days! They don't have to wait millions of years for a star to explode just do get somewhere new! Well we did! And we were damned happy for the privilege!

Hrmph! Sounds cushty to me! Back in my day-- before the goop days, mind-- I would have given my left arm to be putting my feet up performing fusion in the centre of a star. We had none of that comfort! We all had to share an infinitesimally small space waiting until the point of expansion, me and all the other proto-matter, we did, but we didn't complain! Nosiree!

Back in my day people didn't complain about the next generation when they were in their twenties.

I know that this is totally tongue in cheek, but there is some stuff that, no BS, I'm SOOOOOOO glad that we have now that I didn't have when I was a kid.

-No Netflix/Hulu/HBO Go/DVR, etc. If you had a TV show you wanted to keep up with, you HAD to watch it at the time it was being shown, and if you missed it? Too bad, better hope you can rent the full season on video or they show a rerun.

-Speaking of renting, of course, having to drive to Blockbuster and just hoping all the copies weren't checked out of the newly released movie you wanted to see. Oh, and if you did get lucky enough to get it, you pretty much had to return in the next day or you get to pay late fees (remember those?). No more throwing your Netflix in the mail.

-You had to actually remember people's phone numbers, or at least have them written down somewhere. I honestly can say that I can think of maybe 3 phone numbers besides my own that I actually have memorized.

-You actually had to know how to drive around to get places, and if you didn't know how, you had to actually buy a map and figure it out.

I have one.

English being my 2nd language, I had to learn it at age 8. I had to carry around a dictionary about half my size in volume and weight to improve my vocabulary. Electronic dictionary back then costs just as much as a smartphone today and is of poor quality.

Whenever I tutor someone who can't even bother to google a single word in his smartphone, it brings my blood to a boiling point.
I hate tutoring lazy fuckers.

Other than that, I have no problem with "kids having it easy". I'm aware I have things easier than my parents. I don't plan on complaining about it to my hypothetical child(ren) either.
