Both irrelevant, and untrue. Irrelevant because the joke was made. Untrue because whether or not you were calling attention to it, you were making the joke anytime anyone read your profile. Directly or not, you were making a joke about rape at the same time you're trying to act sympathetic towards a rape victim.

It has nothing to do with anything.
Actually it has everything to do with everything. How are we supposed to believe that you're appalled by this article being disrespectful towards a rape victim when you're making a tasteless joke about rape inside your profile (Which, by the way, just tacking "Not" before the words doesn't make it any-less tasteless)? It's the old glass house argument. You can't call someone out for being disrespectful when you're arguably being worse about it. It'd be like if Fox News accused CNN of being biased in their news coverage; maybe they'd be correct in their assertion, but they still have no place calling someone out on something they do just as bad if not worse.

Guys , stop defending video games for every wierd glare that they get. The important matter here is that an 18 year old girl got brutally raped and murdered. My condelences to the family of the victim.
It's beyond a "weird glare", and more of a finger pointed directly at us in a very public manner. And no one will disagree that the murder was tragic, but what's even more tragic is the thought that people fear-mongering on video games will provide a scapegoat that gives the murders leniency in their trial. I mean really, what's worse? The needless murder of one girl; or the murders getting an easy scapegoat that gets them off the hook so they can go out and do it again?

This isn't just about covering our asses, it's about making sure that criminals can't use us to cover their own asses as well. If a punishment serves any purpose, it's to make sure that people are too afraid to break a law. If any scapegoat means that they can get away with it a lot more easily then believe me they'll milk that scapegoat for everything its worth, and the video game hate mongers are just going to make it easier for them.
I see your point and agree, but I just got a very sleazy vibe from this article and the way it was presented. When I was reading this I wasn't sure if the author was more upset about video games getting blamed or the acutal murder itself, and besides if the article was trying to null the argument that " Video games made them do it !" to not give the criminals leniancy in court I think he could have done a much better job at enforcing that point.

Clearly it's all WoW's fault, we should shut it down so no one else gets killed....

Poor girl, my condolences to the family

WoW should be defended because it allowed the killers to get caught. WoW is no more violent than a Saturday morning cartoon. These killers were psychologically messed up long before and should be locked up and castrated.

This is gonna sound really dumb, but i think i can see why they thought they would get away with it. They probably just figured everyone would think they were talking about something in game.

Though these two "geniuses" need a lesson on the internet and why its called the WORLD WIDE WEB and not the Private Corner in your house.

You all know what's sad? A girl got raped and murdered and because the media has this agenda against video games the focus has been shifted off of the tragedy and onto a pointless and ultimately insignificant involvement of video games in this ordeal.

I don't know this is the first time I've felt this way about topics like this, shootings, murder, other crimes, all of them seem secondary to the ignorance proliferated by an opportunistic media, but theres something about rape that hits me harder, i can only imagine that feeling of helplessness, and i think that i might even want to die if i were to ever experience it.

Is it too much to ask for a cease fire? even if they keep shooting? These things SHOULDN'T be opportunities for the advancement of an agenda. They shouldn't diluted as just another point to someone's argument, it's a shame that ANYONE would use this event for their own ends. What does it take for some people to get over themselves?

Damn my pooping. I need to kill someone now.

OT: This is sad. The fact that they killed her, bragged about it on WoW, and people are blmaing it on videogames. They said they wanted to kill ever since they were younger but NOOOOOOOOO we need to choose the most publicity reason.

EDIT: I need more mana or I can't kill the "lich king". Anyone have water?

This is why I hate most news outlets. They're not out to actually deliver the factual story to people they're out to see how outrageous and false they can make a story before the public no longer reacts to it.

I hope blizzard sues that news paper for slander or something. One lawsuit with blizzard would send a message to the news outlets to stop crucifying games at every turn after Metzen and Morahaine walk away with everything they own plus any future off-spring.
Trying to strong arm the media would only likely encourage their position that video games are "the enemy" (just look at them trying to silence us for exposing the truth!). However much i would enjoy watching the lawsuits fly it would only ultimately cause harm.

While we're at it, watching Avatar made me go on a public killing spree at a furry convention (sarcasm)

Video games are today's scapegoat for everything that's wrong with society, and it makes me sick. There's violence in music, books and movies, but if someone plays a video game and then kills someone, it's the game's fault. What about the other 11 million people that play World of Warcraft? As far as I can tell, the majority of them have never killed someone. I myself have never had the urge to commit murder, and nothing in WoW seems likely to give me such an urge.
In all honesty, I think prison is too good for these dirtbags. These guys need to be put in some form of facility and slowly tortured to death.
And by slowly, I mean for the rest of their lives.
I don't have issues o_O

See, these are the kind of filth I feel should simply be destroyed like rabid dogs. Have them recategorised as nonhuman, take them out the back and shoot them, then burn the bodies. They're not humans, they're monsters and should be treated as such.

I'm actually shocked that they think WoW had anything to do with it, because we all know how clicking on someone to whack them with a stick is incredibly similar to brutally murdering someone. And what the fuck is with that kid who said he's always wanted to kill someone? Even the craziest of people I've met haven't been that insane.

11,999,999 of WoW players have not murdered anyone (most likely). Using this scientific method I can safely assume, that World of Warcraft prevents violent crimes.
Usually catches people doing them too.

What on earth goes through people's heads honestly...

My mother plays WoW and she thinks it's ridiculously tame (often laughing at some of the more ridiculous things in it), and about the perfect average of a '12 rated' age group. If anything they were just using WoW as a 'elaborate chat program' in this instance.

Now this is ofc a another fact why video games needs to be banned... -.-
/joke (for those who didn't understand it -.-)
(I need new phrase for topics like this)

If person is healthy from mind (Being normal =/= Having good mental health), the line so Fantasy and Real life do not blur... "Then we should ban people with mental health issue from games" Yeah go diagnose everyone who buys the BF:BC and says it is a perfect and balanced game... And you start regulating this for free! "No I wont." The STFU!

No.. I am not bipolar -.-... This is yet another sarcastic speech I tend to do almost everywhere.

I think this is an insult and a challenge to us gamers. They're trying to throw the"OMG GAEMS MAKE U DUMMER" onto the whole thing about video games causing violence. World of Warcraft was created in 2004 if I recall correctly. And 'young' from the age of 16 means about 7-10, so provided you all understand where I'm going with this, you'll understand that the staff of the paper must hate WoW to condemn it.

This is sick. They're trying to pin the murder of a girl on a video game. Yeah because y'know after I've played an hour of WoW I feel like I've gotta go out and murder the young girl up the street because that happened all the time in WoW. Sad, sad day to be a gamer...

That's stupidity multiplied by stupidity... Not only the two snots raped and murdered the girl, but they felt like bragging about it, over the internet, on a game that made it clear some time ago that all communication within it are logged for safety purposes. I hope they rot rot in prison and drop the soap a lot.

As for the whole 'vidiogaems did it!!1' trend, well... i seriously don't have strength any more to comment on such idiotic statements. Im pretty sure those two jerks also ate bread and pooped, maybe pooping turns people into murderers too?
First, I seriously lol'd at the pooping comment. But I digress...
These guys are the worst kind of assholes. They feel no remorse for their horrendous acts AND they make it easier for stupid asses to play the 'violent gamez r bad! derp!' card. There deserve to NEVER see the light of day again.

And this is why i hate the current jurisdiction.

Imagine being in her shoes in her last days. You are kidnapped, beaten, raped and possibly murdered slowly while begging for your life. Both murderers don't have any regrets about what they did. They practically laugh in the face of her parents.

And what do they get? 10 Years. 10 FREAKING YEARS. For rape and murder with no regrets at all. And only if they're treated like adults too! They will be out of jail pissing on her grave in no time! And this kind of shit is happening all over the world.

We need a new death sentence. Not that whiny and expensive shit Americans got (feeding death row prisoners 10+ years, allowing them to bother government officials before being killed and granting them other benefits). Just trial them, put them on the wall, maybe blindfold them (if you want to be nice) and shoot.
What you don't like being killed? Oh too fucking bad, maybe you should have thought about that before raping and murder other people who didn't want to die either.
