Kingdom Hearts III Director Brainstorming Dynamic Possibilities

The Kingdom Hearts III team plans to take advantage of many possibilities they could not take on the PS2.

The "Dark Seeker" saga of Kingdom Hearts has gone on for over a decade. In that time, videogames have continuously been evolving. With the capabilities of the PS4 and Xbox One, Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura and the rest of his team will be working to make Kingdom Hearts III more dynamic.

"I think when you look at screens of what's currently in development, you can get a good feel of the depth that will be possible to have as a console title," Nomura said in a Creator's Interview video series [http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=rokHYPFaxYo]. Famitsu published a transcript of the video interview. "For mobile [portable] releases, we're pretty limited in the amount of information we can convey, but console versions make it possible to have a wider field of vision. It's been a while since Kingdom Hearts was on a home console, so I believe its [increased] scale will be considerably noticeable." Kingdom Hearts II released in Japan in 2005 (2006 in the rest of the world), and since then each game in the series has been on a handheld device.

Kingdom Hearts III's gameplay will stick to the base of Kingdom Hearts I and II, but it will implement some of the "bold actions" and "special systems" first applied in spin-off titles. Sora will run and fly around like before, but his mobility and control will be smoother.

"There will be action characteristics that will allow you to fly as far as you want, if you actually try doing it," Nomura said. "While there will be some sort of limit, this time, there will be the 'Free Run' feature that is seen in other action games as of late that will allow you to run and climb all over the place." Nomura added that the game has something even more mobile than Sora's Final Form in Kingdom Hearts II.

In the past, the series has not used a brush-style texture to replicate Disney's 2D work to 3D due to hardware capabilities, but Nomura said the team will do this for Kingdom Hearts III.

Nomura would like to use the touchpad on the DualShock 4, but has not decided on anything yet. The game will also be released for the Xbox One -- something the team needs to keep in mind, too.

"Since we now have so many things we can do, it can be a little overwhelming."

Everything sounds awesome so far except for that part about the touchpad. They really don't need to shoehorn in a feature to utilize it.

My guess it will be a quick way to move through menus. With the button being a quick spell button of some sort. That or the different ways to swipe could be keyed into using a quick fire spell or curaga spell.
actually it would be just as slow, and not nearly as accurate. the touch pad is not like the Wii U's.

Ah Final Form. Once you got a decent aerial combo going with that thing you never knew where you'd end up. Speaking of Kingdom Hearts 3, have you guys seen this?

Not too fond of the pirate ship thing but that Rock Titan train fight thing looks cool.

I was pondering the ship and the train. They look similar, in that they are sparkly, both have goldish outlines and seem to have appeared out of nowhere. Could they be related to some kind of new mechanic?

So, while I'm psyched about Kingdom Hearts 3 and feel Squenix is finally getting back on the right track, I have to ask

Final Fantasy XV? Can we, uhh, can we hear how that's going? That was announced 7 years ago, we're all psyched for KH3 But are you even LOOKING at FFXV?

If I had to guess I'd say that they're a new kind of reaction command type section. Kinda like how you'd fly on Pegasus to cut off the Hydras heads in the second game.

So, Nomura. Can we get a definite answer as to whether you are focusing on Final Fantasy XV or Kingdom Hearts III? Cause I'm excited for both, really. I just need to know, which one are you currently working on the most? Because from E3, what I got from that was that FF XV was your main focus, now I'm really beginning to question that. Finish one or the other, stop diddling around and do your damn job.

I'm with that plan 100%, especially this talk about a "Free Run" feature...

OT: Why do I get this strange feeling that the "final mix" that usually comes from the main console games would end up being different features exclusive to either the PS4 or Xbow One... since they seem like they want to implement as much as they can with this game using what the PS4 and Xbow One has to offer...
