Whelp, each his own, I guess...
Funny you should mention that; Kingdom Hearts could actually be considered a deconstruction of common fan-fiction tropes. Namine's character arc in CoM is essentially one big mockery of self-insert fanfics, and the same could be said of Xion's character arc during Days. I'm planning on writing a paper on this interpratation of KH some day.

OT: Y'know, a few months ago, the people of this forum were vehemently opposed to a Star Wars level in KHIII, but today, they seem to be all "Keyblade lightsaber, fuck yeah!". Wonder what happened. Ah well. As long as we get to see the TWEWY gang again, I'll be happy.

I guess I'll be one of the few dissenting opinions here and quote a great man to sum up my feelings on this: "No God! No God, please no! No! No! NOOOOOOOO-"

I find this fascinating. I remember when Disney bought Marvel a while back, and so many were groaning at the thought of Marvel characters appearing in the next Kingdom Hearts installment. Now we've got actual confirmation that Star Wars characters being in the next KH is a possibility, and the majority of reactions here are "ZOMG PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN."

EA hav e the exclusive liscence to make games using the Star Wars IP. Kingdom Hearts is not owned by EA. Open. And. Shut. It doesn't matter if you think thats not how it should be, thats how it is.
No, but Kingdom Hearts is owned in part by Disney. And they completely own the Star Wars characters. And with how much bigger and more powerful Disney is than EA, I don't think there's any question as to who is going to win that battle. It doesn't matter what contracts or deals they've supposedly made. If Disney wants something to happen, it'll happen. Open. And. Shut. And it wouldn't be a Star Wars "game," it would just be the characters guest-starring and maybe a few Star Wars themed in-game items. If you think Disney would let a little peon like EA stand in the middle of something they want, then I don't think you realize the kind of lawyers Disney has. Like really, Disney probably spends more on toilet paper each year than what EA pays their CEO. EA is less than a flea to their legal team.

Not to mention it's something that would be stupid for EA to fight for. Let's say they do pick a fight with Disney over this. What'll happen? Well, apart from being squashed in court by Disney's fleet of lawyers, they'll royally piss off every Kingdom Hearts fan for messing with their game, whether they wanted this to happen or not. That's even more bad PR, which while I'll admit they haven't always done their best to avoid, it seems these days they're at least trying. It would be just suicide. They have nothing to gain, and a lot to lose.

I suppose since they did Pirates of the Caribbean and Tron: Legacy with their less-cartoony designs before it wouldn't be a totally bad thing. But I really hope they don't. It sounds cool on paper to think about Sora becoming a Jedi, but it doesn't work with the KH universe.

And we already have a Yoda figure. It's King Mickey.

Eh, I would argue the Yoda figure in KH is actually Yen Sid. Mickey, while wise, aloof, and kickass, is still a little too foolhardy at times to be the Yoda figure. Especially in Birth By Sleep. Yen Sid is definitely more of a teacher, and I think he's got more of an "aged wisdom" thing going on that Mickey.

Fair enough, but their height and fighting styles are strikingly similar. Especially with how mysterious his character was in the first two games - we know what Mickey looks like, of course, but we never see his face until KHII, and even then he wears his Organization XIII disguise at first.

Mickey was an insufferable student for Yen Sid at first though, and of course Birth by Sleep was a prequel to his later badass self. He certainly improves by the time Sora gets to meet him. I swear, KH is the only version of Mickey that I can actually take seriously.

Are the same people in their twenties wanting Star Wars stuff in it the same people that raged out when Kindgom Hearts mixed Final Fantasy character with Disney ones? I remember a lot of that years ago.

It 'IS' fan-fiction going over the edge. Everyone who isn't interested just ignores it until it becomes too popular.

As soon as I saw the picture my eye's already started rolling. I don't think the games are bad though, just corny as hell.

I'd actually be more in favor of watching Sora beat up Loki than Darth Vader, since we're talking about both Star Wars and Marvel...

Lightsaber Keyblade. Want
You know that there was art of lightsaber keyblades, well drawn art too, within 6 hours of the announcement that disney acquired lucasfilm?

There's a very VERY low number of ways they could combine the 2 WRONG. Putting Jar Jar as an important character would be 1 of them. Even in the prequel trilogy he was just there to merchandise to kids, there's no point in including him. Another gungan, maybe, just not him. The name alone attracts too much (moderately unwarranted) hate.
I'm currently in a tabletop group that's playing a Star Wars RPG; we have a running joke that Jar Jar is actually a learning disabled gungan that everyone is just humoring :p

I know a friend that's gonna kill someone over this. She's a diehard Star Wars fangirl but no so much for Kingdom Hearts.

I need to be as far away from her as possible when KH3 launches, since I'm personally psyched about this idea.

This. So much this. Honestly, KH 3 may be the final installment I purchase, as I feel the series is declining in quality. Also, I feel like KH 2 really could have been the final installment, as most of the character and story arcs had been successfully finished, until the convoluted spin offs made the series unnecessarily complex. I'm apparently the only person here who also thinks a star wars/marvel kingdom hearts game would be terrible, but everyone is entitled to their opinions. Maybe I'm just too old for this franchise anymore, as the primary reason I play the original is for nostalgia, and not because their the best games ever. Gravity Falls would be epic though, we need that...

I really hope this doesn't happen. Star Wars has a lot of cool characters, but this is would just dilute the world far too much.

Plus, there's a cartoonish whimsy that lends itself to putting Final Fantasy characters in a Disney Universe that I don't think would translate as well for Star Wars.

Hm, I get ya. So basically, Mickey is the kickass Yoda from the prequels, while Yen Sid is the more grumpy-teachy but still badass Yoda from the original movies. I can dig that.

And I also agree that I love how Kingdom Hearts treats Mickey. He's still got his charm, and whimsey but there's a rock-solid core there that makes him so awesome.

I will never understand Kingdom hearts fans. Even hardcore otakus I kinda maybe somehow someday get, but not KH.

That is to say seeing them bastardize Harrison Ford by putting him next to rainbowcolor hair angsty teens and mickey fucking mouse would break my heart.

I would not mind the Marvel or Star Wars universe crossing over into the Kingdom Hearts universe... after they finish the Xehanort arc, of course...

By having the characters from Marvel and/or Star Wars in this new KH arc, they can have these new crossover possibilities flow much more fluently with the overall story-line... and not seem like they're just adding characters and worlds in the game just to be there, for the most part...

But, other than that...

"You'll never know who you'll run into next..."
-The motto the series should still stand by

I love KH and I love Star Wars...and yet, I don't want this.

The way I see it, all those Disney characters and worlds exist in simple worlds. Like Cinderella; you only know she lives in a house with three crazy ladies and there's a palace somewhere. Or Nightmare Before Christmas. Halloween Town, Xmas Town and some US city, But Star Wars is such a complex series and its soooooo fleshed out that introducing someone, anyone from that universe and leaving others out feels wrong. And not to mention they would somehow tie in the Force with the Heartless or something and...I don't know. That doesn't feel right...

FF characters crossovers made sense to me. In a way, they're all part of the same lore. Disney princesses were the same. But I don't know. As badass as it sounds and as awesome as it would play, I don't wanna see it happen. Just because Disney got a pretty new toy doesn't mean they gotta go around showing it off to everyone else every chance they get...

Disney is very protective of its intellectual property - especially those properties as exceedingly valuable as Star Wars.
Yeah, because they wouldn't want Star Wars to get over-merchandised, off-cannon, or bogged down by stories that disappoint audiences...

In all seriousness, love the idea. Logistically don't think they can pull it off for KH3, but maybe one day. Also not sure how well it would blend; the Pirates of the Carribean level from KH2 was pretty weird, definitely my least favorite. If they can make it fit tonally, awesome.

And yes, lightsaber keyblade. Yes.

Eh, I guess it would be cool... I mean, a lightsaber Keyblade? BADASS! Not sure how the crossover would work, though...

Speaking of which...

Agreed. though if they took this route, they use shows like Motrocity and Phineas and Ferb as well.

Also, if they're doing Star Wars, they should have Marvel characters as well.

...or maybe not...
