Kissing: why is it still a social taboo?

Who the hell thinks it's a social taboo? If two people kiss I probably don't notice, and if I do notice I don't care. I tend not to pay attention to what other people are doing unless they're waiving a firearm in the air.

Nothing wrong with it in my opinion. My girlfriend always kiss my cock in public! ;P
Damn straight!.

OT: I think its perfectly fine, on nights out when me and my friends go clubbing etc we always kiss (Female friends, for the record). Its just a bit of fun and we all love each other anyway, we dont go all clingy and 'relationshippy' on each other, its a sign of affection that will always be just fun to us :)

Wouldn't say it's a taboo - it's just not something that most people like to see. And honestly, if people did like watching, you probably wouldn't want them to watch unless you've got some voyeuristic tendencies. I just avoid looking, really, but I've never felt that it was wrong or in any way a taboo.

Most people don't treat it as a social taboo, as far as I'm aware. My old Sixth Form tried to outlaw it but that place would fit right in if it were in Nazi Germany, so I don't really think it counts.

I would kiss my girlfriend in public no problem and i have no problems with others doing it to.
Just inappropriate displays of affection that annoys me, like dry humping....
I could understand though how a bitter person could react when he/she sees two people kissing in the corner.
It deppends on the emotions of the person/people that may be watching two make out....although i'm not sure who actually would watch two people make out, it's none of their business to see other peoples business if you know what i mean.

Really? its the 21st century, wake up, its time to grow the fuck up.
Who gives a crap what century it is. Most people will find it disgusting, and I can tell you that from what I've seen.

Kissing itself is fine by me, but I would rather not watch other people do it; it makes me uncomfortable, and their actions are conflicting with my right to be in a public space and conduct my business.
Wait, what?

So you're saying "It's fine, as long as it's not other people doing it"?

That's basically what I gathered from that post. And how are their actions "conflicting with your right to be in a public space and conduct your business"? I mean, that's just ridiculous!
Yeah, I'm sorry that came out kind of ambiguous.

I find nothing inherently wrong with the act of kissing itself, but knowing couples are making out in my common room is quite uncomfortable, because I'm a sad, lonely bastard. My school had a massive debate over how we should handle the issue, and plenty of people said "Just don't look", but that's a rather flimsy argument, because it's rather hard to just expunge a pair of freshmen jumping down each other's throats from my senses at will. It's like telling someone to just put their hands on their ears if they don't like the sound of my voice; why should I have handicap myself just for you? But the same can be said by the opposing party, so it's quite the pickle.

Get a fucking room!

Unless it's just a quick smooch, then it's okay.

And in what world is kissing a taboo??????

Because it upsets those of us who have none to kiss...

Or because some people misunderstand "kissing" to mean "use your tounge to find out what the other person had for lunch"
Kissing is fine, attacking the other person's face like a starving dog is not.

I just don't like sitting across a kissing couple on the bus. It's awkward/rude to stare even if your actually looking past them at the window. So what am I supposed to do? Stare at the floor the whole time?!?

I don't mind it if I'm hanging out with a couple and they kiss, but I will usually look away because I feel rude if I'm watching them kiss. It's not that I'm uncomfortable with it, it's out of respect. However, if they drop out of the conversation to start making out, then I would find a problem with them.

I don't know about anybody else, but I see no affection in it. All I see is people trading spit, which I find to be quite nasty.
And I see no "love" in bacteria trading.
What do you see love in? Because there are a whole lot of diseases specifically transmitted through sex, and you trade bacteria just holding hands.

A polite wave?
I see romantic love in nothing.
You mean you don't see romantic love in anything? So romantic love doesn't exist?

Or are you saying you see it in the literal act of doing nothing?

Both seem totally off base to me, no offense.

The former. I can see other types of love, but not romantic.

I agree with many of the other people here. And I hate how people think they are better than us when they do it. I remember how two such people blocked the stairwell and prevented me (and other people) from getting to my next class.

Kissing isn't the problem, I think its mega tounged making out that people find rude. For me its an annoying attention grabbing distraction. Don't get me wrong, I do love to make out, but If you're going to lick each others faces off, can you find a corner or something?

kissing is only a social taboo in other countries, most likely not in the U.S.

i know a guy (i forgot where hes from) he told me that in his culture he is not allowed to hold a girls hand until they are married

in japan its considered rude to hold hands in public

lots of places have their own customs

Spoken like a true discriminator! Good on you sir, now to show your disgust at the darkies being allowed to stay on our street. See, they get funny looks from most people, they need to get back to their own country, filthy wretches.
