Im a big MMA fan, I train when I can and watch it when I can. Escapists, (Im not sure if there is an MMA following on the escapist) which do you prefer to see?

A slick submission; eg,

Or a big knock out,

Personally I love when a submission comes out of nowhere.

Your thoughts?

it depends. personally i perfer a good knockout, however a skillful submission can also be quite rewarding to see.

on a personal note, my mate watches alot of UFC. we got really drunk one night and decided to have a fight in my garden, he won with a chokehold. i nearly passed out and ended up vomiting all over the garden, but when we met up again a few days later, one side of his body, from his armpit to his waist, was black and blue from where i was elbowing him whilst he chocked me. good times good times

It can depend, an knockout that appears outta nowhere (chuck liddel and rashad evans). bt at the same time a really skillful submission move is also orgasmic (if u ever seen anderson silvas jumping arm bar then youll understand!!)

I love to see a crisp technical striker but at the same time anyone can get a ko under the right cicumstances. Not everyone can hit an omoplata.

While it depends on who's fighting, I prefer submissions because they take a whole lot more skill. Pretty much anyone can swing hard enough to knock a guy out if they hit him right, but watching an older fight where Royce Graecie submits a guy 6 inches taller and 50 pounds heavier than him simply with a mastery of how to hurt the human body is incredible.

With that being said, some knockouts are simply awesome, especially when you don't know when they're going to happen. A la Rashad Evans vs. Chuck Liddel.

Why does your 'slick submission' link show a video of crappy pro-wrestling, without even a fake submission?

Wouldn't something like this be a better example?

Knockouts are awesome. Gotta love the way they just drop to the ground.
If anyone knows British MMa I used to train at Ross Pointons Gym and helped him to get ready for fights. I was there in the Crowd when he fought Abdul in Cage Rage and was KOd by a brutal spinning back hand. He went down like hed been shot. IT was the scary as he didnt get up for ages. First time hed been KOd.

You see it on TV but when its live and someone youve trained with for over a year is more visceral

Well I actually prefer to watch a knockout my self, it just seems a more exciting finish and its some think to talk about with your freinds, A tap out is alot easeir to pull off and it just doesnt seem exciting of talking about unless it was a really well pulled off tap out like a Jumping armbar. I'm a mixed martial artist myself disiplined In Brazilian jui jitsu, Boxing and Muay Thai and to be honest I prefer to stand with my opponent and out box him but they mostly want to take me to the floor and grapple, thats why I prefer Boxing or Thai boxing to MMA, of coucre MMA is the perfect form of self defence I just find it boring to watch some times, its too much rolling around on the floor and not enough actual combat, and when they do stand up there most of there attacks looks sloppy and there punches are clumsy. But that still doesnt stop me from watching it though becuase every now and again there is a good fight.

it really depends

a good knock out is great, such as Yves Edwards and Robbie Lawler, tho a good submission is really good, such as Nogeria vs Heath Herring in Pride

as long as the fight is good, i don't mind the ending, even a decision
