The man has enough fan boys that will buy it regardless.

I have my doubts that it'll fail.

Note: I'm not harshing Kojima fanboys/girls. I'm pretty much one of them.
Saying that you're "going to quit unless.." is quite a good way to give people another reason to buy your games as well. Almost like black-mail. Except not really..

It sounds like his next project is going to be dealing with sensitve material and if he messes up the presentaion then he may very well not be able to show his face in the industry again.

Reguardless of what it really is reffering to it just sounds like hype. He's trying to get our attention before his next project is even released.

Frankly i could care less if he leaves the industry for good. Metal Gear was a cool idea but it got so corny and stupid by the end of the series that i just stopped caring.

Someone probably already states these but.
1. Inaccurate title. He'll be socially shun from the industry if he messed up his next project. He doesn't say anything about leaving the industry on his own account. Therefore it's possible for him to leave the industry despite high sales or stay in the industry with low sales.
2. Next project doesn't mean next published title.

Overall pretty poor reporting.

Aw, come on, Kojima, don't wimp out. Go all the way! Retirement isn't your people's traditional response to failure, and you know it.
... What Japan are you talking about?

Otacon: Snake. What you're seeing here is a new..-
Snake: METAL GEAR!
Otacon: It's called Metal Gear Rapelay. It's another bipedal delivery system of nuclear warheads, but this one can command the wind itself.
Snake: <Snake's trademark grunt>! How is that even possible?!

Frankly I'm just amazed that he can tweet at all. I thought the man expressed thoughts only in the format of complete novels.

God, if it's a game about the duck he's riding, I'm going to flip.

In all seriousness, it's probably not going to be a Metal Gear Solid title. I wonder what it could be? Next gen ZoE? *Please please please PLEASE*

Fuck off Kojima you overrated hack YOU WILL NOT BE MISSED!

why not try making films or anime? It's where your 'talents' clearly better spent, certainly not turning out piss poor metal gear games for the rest of your life. I keep spending money on metal gear games like an idiot who listens to fanboys raving and I think "maybe this one will be good, the art design looks pretty cool" and then being horribly dissapointed by sub par gameplay, or even worse ZOne of the enders games which made a much better anime than it ever did a game.
The final straw was metal gear solid 4, an interactive movie that really should never be labelled game by any right thinking person and now clogs up the trade in sections of local game stores by countless unimpressed gamers such as myself.

Personally i'll stick to suda51
Trolling much? Get your grammar straight, for the love of God.

Seriously, Kojima isn't bad. He's alright as a game designer and as a writer, but he doesn't know how to trim it down. Personally I can understand his fear. He's scared of trying to trim the writing because he's afraid of making any loose threads to the story. MGS4 was a big example of that. Most of the game was, yes, cutscenes, but there was a big story it had to wrap up. Imagine something like, 20 sum-odd years of Metal Gear games it had to tie up in terms of loose ends. That's a massive fucking burden, on the part of the designer, the writers, and the people involved in development.

Kojima and his vows ...

"This Metal Gear Solid will definitely be my last." And then he went on to make another two MGS games.

However, if he's serious this time: I'd miss his talent. The MGS series is among my favourite videogame series of all time.

Depends whether its a taboo of Japanese culture or Western Culture, what they see as a bit taboo would probably just a part of everyday common rudeness in the west. Interesting to see what he's refering to.

"challenge a certain type of taboo"
I don't normally play MGS, But i'm kinda intrigued as to what he's got in mind.

Wait. It's going to be a Twilight MMO. Remember, Kojima is a Twilight fan, so much that he judged a fanfiction contest.

His next game will be expressed entirely in chunks of 140 characters or less. It's taboo to him!

This is what I was thinking. :D

RapeLay Solid 2 by Hideo Kojima.
And this.

Jokes aside, the tone of his message does suggest he's got some kind of confrontation in mind, either with industry conventions or fanbase expecations. Hell, it might end up being the first Hideo Kojima-involved game I do buy.

well thing is he is extremely talented but the games he has been making lately are really REALLY REALLY boring and with MGS4 it lose the whole stealth thing and made it a run and gun 3rd person. bring out the acid series like the ones on the PSP those were fun
