Konami Apologizes for Metal Gear Online Issues With Free Stuff

Konami offers apology, free stuff over Metal Gear Online issues.

The launch of Metal Gear Online was plagued by connectivity issues - namely the inability to connect as well as loss of connectivity - among other errors.

In a post today, Konami apologized for the issues [http://www.konami.jp/mgs_portal/jp/info/index.php?d=201510&id=710], writing "We hereby apologize sincerely for the connection, as well as matching stability issues recurring since the MGO service started, that may have caused inconveniences."

Although Konami states that the service is currently stable, the company has compensated players with in game perks "for the inconveniences," including 3000GP to all players and a promotional code for the duration of the already existing XP Boost has been extended from two weeks to three weeks. Players who have already activated the code will automatically receive the additional week, and the 3000GP reflected automatically after yesterday's scheduled maintenence.

"We will continue to improve so that your experience is more pleasant. We appreciate your continued use of Metal Gear Online."

I knew this would happen. Not just cause of the FOBs being a total mess when the game launched, but more that I'm reminded of GTA Online. Another online component which had a staggered release after the launch of the core game, and GTA:O was a complete disaster when it launched, being totally unplayable for days.

I launched it the day it released, and was greeted with repeated disconnections. I got one game to work, then stayed away from MGO for the whole week before giving it a shot on Saturday, followed by Sunday. By then, the whole thing was mostly stable and functional, but it still needs work.

3000GP is a pretty hefty sum for MGO too. I'll definitely make a lot of purchases with that when I get home.

How about making the FOBs not require online since the data is on your console anyway, and the online component exists solely for other players to steal stuff from your FOBs and serves no practical in-game purpose for what is effectively a single player game which had no one wanting the online component which is only used because it's impractical to finish the game without using it.

Basically, make the single player be actual single player, no one wants a Metal Gear Online, which is why Metal Gear Online failed.

Actually I have a question related to this that maybe someone knows:
The system only updates if you connect it. So if you don't connect, you don't lose and you can just unplug your internet to prevent hassle from the online garbage.

However when you start the game up (having closed it previously) it requests you to accept a Terms and Conditions document and if you refuse that it informs you that it therefore can't connect to the servers and will begin in offline mode.

My question is: if you just consistently refuse those terms and conditions to begin in offline mode, will it also not update?

>Oh, we fucked up...
>Here, have some free shit!

That's all well and nice, but what the fuck are you going to do to actually fix things?

Fuck Konami. Every time i play MGS V and it asks me to download the necessary files for Online play i give it a resounding No. I dont want to play MGS online, nor do i want assholes jumping into my game and stealing my stuff.

The MGS series never needed online before but i guess nowadays everything has to have online features because its another box to check/another thing to bleat about at PR events

The game had a lot of obligatory check-marks on the list of needless spending for triple A games.

-Open world
-Big name voice talent
-RPG character customization
-Side-quests that are all the same with a slightly different coat of paint

That's just the start, but you get the idea. I don't know if it's Konami, Kojima or both who elected to move the game in that direction, but I feel as though it probably could have had all three intended episodes for the story had the maps been smaller, well crafted ones instead of the big, open world one we got. I mean hell, just compare how under-designed Mother Base is compared to Big Shell.

I find this odd as I played the MGO since launch and didn't really notice the connectivity issues (I always chose the 15/16 servers to get a full match) so when I logged to find 3000gp in my account I was pleasantly surprised. However they need to up the amount earned as it is taking the piss and they need to stick to one in-game currency, not two or at least separate them. I have zero interest in the FOB multiplayer and would only ever play it if I wanted to private match with a friend (if that's at all possible).

Edit: it would also be nice if they put the patch notes/information on a tab on the main menu like bloodborne as it's annoying I need to press X like ten times to flick through all the entries.

I'll be interested after they fix the issue that keeps splitting my party in a match. I joined with my 2 friends, I want to play with them, not against them.

Short answer: Yes, but....the game tries very hard to convince you to connect online on a consistent basis

Long Answer: That is something you can do, but there are a few menu's in the game that you can only access while you are connected online, so you would have to have a MASSIVE stockpile of resources if you wanted the maximum benefits out of the extra FOB thing to get the upgrades with the smallest amount of time spent "Connected online".

Even then, your forced to wait 2-16 real world hours for those upgrades to finalize and take effect on your game. And you have to wait for the previous upgrade to complete first before you can buy the next one, so it goes 2 hours, then 6/8, then 12, and finally 16 hours, and if you want late game equipment, it's absolutely necessary to have the second FOB upgraded.

Also learned this part today, but there are also resources (money, various upgrades materials, staff) that are connected to the FOB while online, and if you go offline, they are removed from your single player game. I learned this as I went offline and saw that I lost 500k bucks, which put me 20k bucks into dept, but it gave it all back when I connected online.

Whenever I hear some company saying that "The customer wants more connectivity, so we're going with an always online model", this is what I think of.

No matter what, servers are not infallible. No matter what, I will receive downtime because of maintenance.

If I pay for an experience, then I want access to it when I want access to it, not when it happens to correspond to someone else's time schedule and with prayers that their connection is good today.

Konami: Have some free stuff!
Player: My base got raided and I lost my free stuff.
Konami: Should have bought insurance.

I keep hearing about people not going online for fear of getting stuff stolen, but when I played I pretty much put all my funds into developing my FOBs and the staff that run them. Now I've beat the game, have battle gear'ed night vision soldiers wearing helmits with level 7 machine guns, homing rocket launchers, and the best assault rifles, and I've never once gotten invaded, at this point I'm pretty much invading other bases just to start shit with other people in order to get invaded.

As for MGO, I didn't try the first few days but after that I've had a ton of fun playing it with few hiccups but overall issue free experience.

They have so much to apologise for this means nothing.

If only I didn't live in a world where so many people didn't just buy things because of the name. It was so obvious they would do something as anal as this. They could make viagra out of the souls of cats, one cat for each pill, and it would still sell well if it had a popular name on the bloody box. These issues shouldn't even fucking exist!

If viagra used the souls of cats... I'd use more of it!

The big problem with this is that it's online. Which means you end up with everyone running into the middle of the map and CQCing each other while snipers like me attempt to pick them off. I stopped after three matches because I was waiting for the next match when I came to the conclusion that I was actually playing something much too similar to COD.

And then when I wanted to free up the 300MB I just ended up having to download it again because my single player save file wouldn't work without it.

You can't pilot battle gear. Why the bloody well tease it through the game when it is purely hypothetical? Apologies, this hopefully saves any potential readers from being as disappointed. It is better you hear it now, assuming not everyone in the world has completed the game already.
Wait...this game is online now? Ehh, just give us the final chapter, please? I'll even pay for that shit, not your insurance though...which...ummm, no...apology there? No? Ok, it's nice to know where we stand, at least.

Ever since MGO came up I haven't been invaded once. Even before that I was invaded maybe a handful of times mostly as retaliation or to steal my stolen nuke. The fear about FOB invasion is being overblown.
