Konami's NeverDead Resurfaces in Time for E3

After a year of very little info, Konami's revealing new details about NeverDead, and boy does it sound nuts.

Konami's NeverDead <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/102946-Konamis-NeverDead-is-Immortal-Dismemberment-Katamari>accumulated a lot of interest last summer when it was announced at E3. Unfortunately, little has been revealed about the game, until now. While Konami will undoubtedly have an update later this week when it has its pre-E3 press conference, some new information's come to light thanks to a preview over at Famitsu.

The site introduces us to the game's primary cast, as well as just how ridiculously over the top the game is. The basic premise has players controlling an immortal named Bryce Boltzmann who kills demons for beer money (seriously, that's what it says). Because of his immortality, Bryce can do things like light himself on fire so he can shoot flame shots or throw his own body parts as weapons. Here's the official cast list, as provided by Andriasang:

Bryce Boltzmann
An immortal demon hunter who is employed by NADA, a group that covers up recent demon attacks that have afflicted the city. He spends his days killing off demons to collect beer money.

Arcadia
An investigator with NADA. She overseas demon hunters, but does not appear to be too fond of being in charge of Bryce.

Alex
Like Bryce, demon hunter Alex has the Evil Eye, which is a sign of immortality. However, it is rumored that he is not fully immortal.

Niki
A charismatic idol who's half Indian and half American. She meets Bryce following a certain incident.

NeverDead is being developed by Rebellion, the developer that put out last year's <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Aliens-vs-Predator-Xbox-360/dp/B001TOQ8MU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306969664&sr=8-1>Aliens vs. Predator, and produced by Shinta Nojiri, who has produced games like Metal Gear Aci!d in the past. I'll need to see the game in action before I cast an official opinion on it, but it's hard to not grin a little when I think about playing as a character who isn't afraid to beat something to death with his dismembered arm in order to get ahold of a little beer money.

Beer money... are you for real? Of all the things a protagonist could fight for - BEER MONEY?!

Well, glad it wasn't dead in development.

How many main character can't die now? Is it a new trend? Cause I hope it's die.

Hey, beats "Having a thing against Russians" any day.

OT: Curious about this game. So far, it seems like a third person shooter with a gimmick, but I would like to be proven wrong.

Calumon: But, would this be REALLY easy? I bet I could beat with one hand behind my back! :D

Sounds like a gimmick to me. Oh well.
Also, that sounds REALLY easy. Only thing they could do is add escort missions. Ugh...

Oh Rebellion, what a checkered past you have. I want to feel interested and excited about this game, but...well...Rebellion developed Rogue Warrior. That game is irredeemably terrible.

Read an aricle in a gaming mag on this. Interested, but still not sure.

What if the point of the game is not survival, but style? So while you can't fail to finish a mission, you're motivated to become better at the game to achieve a higher score (perhaps with more outrageous tactics). Try thinking outside the box before you say things like "gimmicky" or "too easy."

I remember seeing the trailer for this a long time ago. Colour me interested. I think it will either be a very interesting mechanic or a very poorly executed gimmick. Unfortunately I'm also concerned that the game will be one long escort mission, which would make me rage so hard the floor would melt.

I was wondering how this game was doing. The premise still sounds interesting, and ridiculous, I just hope the actual game lives up to it. It can turn out either way.

Yeah, Bayonetta did both of those, both style and survival and did them amazingly. If we have a game that presents itself as ridiculously easy, then there is no challenge, which takes away some of the fun from the gameplay. You need some form of challenge and danger of failure to keep the player on his toes. Also, judging by the other members, they'll be on your team, fighting with you, so people uninterested in "points" could theoretically, though bearing in mind we don't know a lot about this game, have the game play itself.

Calumon: But, it's fun inside the box! ^^

I remember reading somewhere (A gaming mag I think) that the only way to die was if your head's destroyed.
That said, it looks to be an interesting game, to say the least.
