Yeah I'm just gonna go ahead and quote what I said in another thread about this.

Seriously people, stuff like this has been going on for decades. Things aren't gonna change now just because a load of Facebook and Youtube users are aware of it.
Good thing the legions of keyboard warriors are now aware eh? Truly the world can now begin to heal.[/quote]

Kony is shaking in fear after hearing about this, "they are going to quote stuff they learned in their liberal arts degree, oh no!"

I guess that will bite the C bros in the ass if the charity ends up being the front for a child porn distributor or something.
Well with the amount of people mentioning the uncharitable actions of the charity, it seems like that could be a possibility.

I still have to agree with the idea that doing nothing is sometimes better... these guys claim to be helping the problem but they're just avoiding other issues like disease and famine that need more attention.

Why are we concentrating resources against one man when we could be using it to help thousands of others.

They also seem to be quite unethical themselves, supporting a military regime. Interfering could in fact make things worse. People have to be careful which sides they pick, especially if they don't know all the facts.

And no I'm not saying I support Joseph Kony...just that I don't support Invisible Children either..something about them doesn't seem ethical. We must discover a third option.

If people really want to help they should give money to a charity which helps people build lifestyles and supports healthcare and agriculture.

The first thought when I wached the video was: "Won't the kidnapped children be the ones whom are killed in the hunt?"

And the answer is "yes" from most people speak to. "But it's for the good cause!" they say then.
What is that cause exactly? Stopping the rape, abduction and pillaging of the locals? The invisible children want to send the Ugandan army that are accused of two of those things allready.

Capture Kony, but not in the way invicible children want it to happen.

I heard about all this earlier today on facebook and several other things regarding the organization of Invisible Child the people who made the film, from what I've seen these guys are very shady and only a small potion of the money they raise ends up going to help people.

These do not seem like guys I would want to support.

Flavour of the month... go look at Somalia, and you will see a lot more atrocious behaviour... people worried about it in the mid 90's, but is mostly forgotten now! People are publically stoned and killed because they looked at eachother in the streets... sickening stuff!

What about Robert Mugabe, and how Zimbabwe and Uganda invaded the DoC and did unspeakable things to tribes around there! Did you know some tribes in Africa kill pygmys and eat there skin because they think it contains magical powers...? Do we worry about and stop that?

This Kony thing is just there because of the media... if someone made a video for some of the other places in the world people would jump on that band wagon as well..

And one final thing... I take it people don't watch the news? Because SYRIA!!!!!!

I learned about this before a lot of people did, and now that more people know, well... that's great! That's the goal and all.

I've known that people have been doing horrible things like this in Africa for years, and I'm glad that the common man is learning about it and voicing their opinion. I'm not donating money to Invisible Children, because it seems they aren't that dependable with money, but I defiantly can't wait for Cover The Night on April 20th.

...Exactly! Nobody did, and that's the problem. Because the organisation made this video, vast swathes of people now know about this situation and they are jumping on the bandwagon to tell others.
I'm sure there's a lot of people who don't know much about Mugabe and other issues, me included.

This is an issue that has been brought to the attention of loads of people. This campaign could help encourage great things in the future, man. It's a good example of showing the true power of Social Networking.

About Syria...yeah, syriasly, more people need to know more about all that; it's grim.
[small]couldn't resist that pun opportunity...[/small]

Honestly, I'm more concerned about the situation in Syria than this. As it is right now, Kony is in hiding, but Bashar Al-Assad is quite actively murdering civilians (and has a shit ton more political power than Kony).

Though once the "rebels" are running around with AKs and RPGs it kinda ceases being a rebellion and becomes a civil war. I've seen many news reports ONLY using the "free Syrian army" as a source or using words like "probably" when describing who is responsible for what.

Whilst on this topic, what percentage of Syrians want Assad out? The news would have you believe 90 or so, but this is 2 regions in one city. I doubt it's a majority.

So anyway in closing, think about this; If you gathered together 30 or so people armed with Aks and RPGs then descended on your nearest city to oust the government how long would it be before your democratically elected government would have the army turn up?

OT. I get spammed to hell over this KONY2012 thing, initially I thought must be some US president thing, some unheard of candidate in the primaries or something. Then I researched it and realized it was a mass fraud perpetrated against hipsters.

The movie itself was quite pretentious. I mean, telling your son that you're going to personally stop an armed african rebel leader that's been terrorizing his people for years?

Ok there champ, lets not get ahead of ourselves...

Good intentions means nothing in this scenario. The United States has no more reason to be stopping Kony than ANY OTHER TERRORIST ON THE PLANET. We are not the Earth Police, we cannot solve all your problems. Also this is africa we are talking about. Its rampart with these kinds of rebel groups. I could probably find a new one every week and make a video about how we should spread awareness about em.

And I hate this whole "american kids can make a difference in problems that don't concern them!"
You think the people of Uganda haven't been doing anything for the past couple of years trying to stop this guy? And you think that you wearing a t-shirt and posting annoying youtube comments is going to do more than their actual government? The entire thing is just mind-bogglingly pretentious. Turning a crisis into a viral sensation is not a respectful thing to do in my opinion.
