Kotick: Activision Blizzard Merger Allows More "Patience"

Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said that merging with Blizzard allowed him to be more patient with a game's progress.

Bobby Kotick is a lot of things, but quiet certainly isn't one of them. It seems he is always talking about the state of the games industry or what Activision is doing differently. At a panel at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco today, Kotick said that he is focused on listening to his customers more than he ever was before. He also said that due to the money pouring in from the Blizzard side of his company, Kotick is able to be more patient when it comes to game development. Perhaps Blizzard's policy of "Don't ship it till it's done" is rubbing off on Kotick and Activision in general.

"I would say that one of the great benefits of the merger of Activision and Blizzard is the elevation of patience," Kotick said. "Partly because we have the financial resources to do it, but we're now in a place where we can really take the time to make sure that we're going to deliver the best games. And that's an incredible luxury.

"You have to instill that value into the culture. Blizzard has that as a unique value of the culture, and it's now been very well-instilled across all of Activision Blizzard. Patience is rewarded."

Kotick also mentioned the importance of not only receiving customer feedback but acting on it. "I think [listening to customers] matters more now than ever before," he said. "You have incredibly passionate and vocal consumers, and they are really thoughtful and articulate about what they would like to see in a game, how you can enhance the experience. So if you take the time and actually listen to what your customers have to say, you are going to create much better experiences."

I may be taking crazy pills, but the stuff I'm taking fun out of making games [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105276-Bobby-Kotick-Is-Ok-with-Used-Game-Sales]" Kotick that we all love to hate? Has he been offed and replaced with this fuzzier, more coherent clone?

I think they trapped the real Kotick in a dungeon somewhere, and programmed a Kotick robot to do some damage control.

I still hate him though.

Is there any other picture of Kotick? Every time he is there to the right, smiling like a goof ball and holding that guitar.

Activision is in the best place to push out new, innovative games. They have the financial backings of both Blizzard and the billion dollar franchise that is Call of Duty.

What do they do with this wealth? Push out sequel after sequel and don't publish a new IP if they can't make sequels out of it.

Hopefully things change. There was a time when Activision put out the greatest and most innovative games. Funny how drastically things change.

easy to talk you need actions to back it up, if people stop suing activision for contact breaches, if this guy reverses his rule by fear and stops trying to take the fun out of games and stops looking for new and ever expanding ways to milk every last dime out every gamer that buys a game with the name activision stamped to it, maybe we are getting somewhere

This is interesting after reading about Bizarre Creations getting sold from Blood Stone not selling well in only two weeks' time.

Yeah, a clone that knows how to make bullshit smell good. He has basically said here that he is using Blizzard to set the bar for other inhouse devs. You don't do as good as Blizz, you get sold or dissolved. It is a good thing CoDBlOps is doing well otherwise Treyarch would be next on the cutting board.

If Activision is now in a position to be patient when making games, why did they rus out Starcraft II when it was a 3rd of the way finished?

Spare me the whole, "In Multiplayer, you can play all three races" bullshit because there are many people that still do not give two shits and a holler about it.

"I would say that one of the great benefits of the merger of Activision and Blizzard is the elevation of patience," Kotick said. Patience eh? Please explain the terrible porting job of Black Ops on PC then.

Great, listen to those customers.

You can start with me, I purchased Black Ops, and my statement is:

"Bobby Kotick, go jump in a fire"

*snickers* Bwaaa HA hahahahah!!!! *falls out of chair* ha ha ha ha ha *gasps for breath* ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha *this goes on for several minutes.*

*sniff* Oh man that's rich, he's obviously never taken a look at any of the blizzard forums. Yeah let me tell ya, that's produced lots of "thoughtful and articulate" feedback over the years.

Thanks Bobby for making my day. :)

More likely someone slapped him in his throne of fire and said:

"Oi, stop being a dick, we're losing sales and making people unhappy, go fix it and you know, pretend to care."
