Cut-scenes rarely make good movies unless designed from the ground up to stand alone as a goddamn movie!

I think this man should rename himself to Bob page (Deus Ex).

soon there will be order again. A new age. Aquinas spoke of the mythical city on the hill, soon that city will be real and we will be crowned its kings. Or, better than kings... Gods!

If they made actual movies that weren't cutscenes, yes.
But knowing Kotick he'll remove cutscenes from games and sell them seperately.

I hope he doesn't read this. He'll use it.
Way ahead of you chief.

I think this is ridiculous. I could easily see some of the guys making cinematics for video games producing animated movies that could compete with the ones hitting the big screen, perhaps ushering in an era of non-kiddie animation.

That said, I would not pay simply for game cinematics, nor would I buy a game that required me to pay for it's cinematics seperatly.

What's more I have some concern over this happening largely because of the way a lot of people use such cinematics for fan made videos on Youtube and such. If such a business was to launch, it would lead to more ridiculous fan-persecution, in order to try and force people to buy this stuff.

Frankly, I can't believe the game industry doesn't believe it's getting enough money out of gamers as it is. I mean cripes. $50-$60 isn't enough already? Nor is a multi-billion dollar industry?

Truthfully I'm actually thinking a huge video game crash would be a good thing at this point on soooo many levels.

Oh hey guys lets cut out a major part of a game and call it a movie but! make it cost more then a normal movie would cost.

seriously wouldn't you be a bit confused when playing a game when you cut to the next level, and your were suposed to watch a cutscene explaining why you went from the lava level to the jungle level? Just think how confusing final fantasy will be without them.

It seems to me that Activision is simply trying to troll gamers at this point. I'll bet Mr. Kotick is a member of 4chan, or perhaps even their leader. I mean, sewing together cut scenes and calling them films!?! who the fuck does-

... never mind.

This man seems to know about marketing and gaming as much as I know about the dark side of Sun's vagina! I swear to god he must be the biggest troll out there, or just completely retarded.

Pretty much the Only company I'd pay to watch a movie from is Valve.

Now those guys know how to make a good movie:

This is why I want them to make a Half-Life movie. IT WILL BE EPIC.
It's also why if they Do, it'll be epicmazing.

That's just a horrible idea. Seriously, who would buy that when you can just look up the cutscenes on youtube?

So. . . He wants to make games. . . And sell the story separate? We will see, friend Kotick. We will see.

I read the thread-title and thought there was an exaggeration somewhere.

...only to ultimately find it fairly accurate

Woah there folks. Check your fire. Make sure you read the whole article. They're not talking about actually making you pay extra money to see cutscenes in a game you already own. They're just talking about packing a bunch of high quality cutscenes on DVD for the fans. And that's something completely harmless that they've done once before.

I misunderstood what was being said at first, and I thought I was going to have to finally organize that lynch mob.

Boy would that have been embarrassing.

No, no, no. That's what I thought was being said at first too. They're just talking about putting the cinematics on a DVD you can buy. They'll still be in the game like normal.

I....I don't know what to say. That's fucking stupid. Does this man actively try to get as much of the gaming community as possible to dislike him?

EDIT: Okay, I misinterpreted his aim a bit there.

Still, unless they flesh them out into more of a story and include cinematic bits from where the actual game was, this is a stupid idea.

"Hey."

"Hey guys."

"Hey, listen."

"Hey Guys, listen."

"I've got..."

"Guys, listen."

"I've got the best idea ever!"

"Listen, you guys."

"Listen."

"I'm gonna..."

"Hey, listen you guys."

"I'm gonna start selling games, without any music or sound... And then make a fortune by letting people pay 20 bucks to download the added audio!"

First he'll just make them available on the side, then he'll cut them out and ONLY make them available on the side - and after that, he'll go even further, you'll see. Be afraid, be very afraid.
(also, if the above monologue would ever become reality, I call dibs for mentioning it)
