l337Lauren Wins Miss Video Game 2007

Lauren Berggren, better known on the fields of glory as L337Lauren, has taken the title of Miss Video Game 2007 at the Festival Arcadia [http://www.festivalarcadia.com/]in Montreal, Canada.

Taking place this past weekend, the competition featured five gamers of the female persuasion squaring off over five separate and unique videogames: Brain Age II [http://www.nintendo.com/gamemini?gameid=m-Game-0000-157&rp=1] and Nascar 2008. The 20-year-old native of Mandeville, Louisiana dominated the contest, coming out on top in four of the five games.

In making her way to the top, Berggren beat out Tiffany "liPStiCK" Greene of Simpsonville, South Carolina; Héléne "LadyLara" Bronnec of Chateaubourg, France; Yvonna "Coochie Dimes" Lynn of Dallas, Texas; and Adelle "Lanen" Moore of Syracse, New York. "It's an amazing feeling to be named Miss Video Game," Berggren said. "All the other girls I went up against this weekend are wonderful and great at their own games. I just hope I can be a really positive role model for all the young girl-gamers out there."

The competition began a year ago with over 500 girl-gamer entrants from around the world. Using the SK Gaming [http://www.titanstrike.com/].

For her victory, Berggren received a one-week trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, $1000 cash and a www.missvideogame.com [http://www.wii.com]; tragically, photos of the swimsuit portion of the contest seem to be missing.

I understand the reasoning behind segregating certain sports by gender. While there may be ladies out there who could play co-ed pro football, it would hurt the image of the sport, and some male players might not be willing to hit them quite as hard.

Anyone know of any info on whether there is a big difference between men and women when it comes to performance in video games? Have females consistently won or placed high, in any mixed gender game competitions? Could video games provide a level playing field for mixed gender sports?

Man, if this is the same Miss Video Game I pointed some friends to last year, then it has changed a LOT.

Even so, that girl....has a ton of eye make-up....she should use less...
