This is just what happens when you make a modern sequel several decades after the previous movie in a franchise. The same could be said with The Mummy series though it's not quite as old.

indy in a fridge that survived a nuke.....all that has to be said.
I tend to be a person that watches a movie all the way through no matter what, but after that I came very close to not finishing it.

When I did finish it, I was glad I watched it for free on megavideo rather than pay money to see it in the theater.

I know that the Indiana Jones movies were out there with the religious artifacts being real and all, and that was cool, but I thought my friend was joking when he told me that there were aliens and a spaceship in Indy 4. Then I watched it. It made me think that Spielberg couldn't decide between doing a movie with aliens or another Indiana Jones movie, so he smashed them together and made, "ET phone Indy."

I don't really see how it was his fault. It was just a bad film, end of. The best actors in the world can't make a bad script good, it doesn't work that way.

I mean seriously, Aliens?! come on!

Yeah, I know! Religious artifacts and mystic powers, sure!

But ALIENS!? That could never happen! /sarcasm

I have to be the only person I know that liked the film.

Does this mean HE is the one that we get to castrate for such an abomination of a film?

What's wrong with LaBeouf? Really, I never did mind him. There have been much worse actors his age, much stupider and much more hollywood. I've never seen the guy not keep a level head, and he seems to genuinely enjoy his roles.
A lot of people seem to have turned on him since the new Transformers films. I don't like them myself, but the blame lies with the story writers and Michael Bay, not Shia. He is a very good actor.

The problem with any Spielberg and Lucas film is that they both are now rich and famous. They surround themselves with disposable yes-men, who wouldn't dare speak out against any dim-witted plan either man comes out with. Look at how many times we see cases of "this iconic character was almost this," where Darth Vader was originally going to be a six armed chicken with dildo vision.
There were many stupid ideas in every Lucas franchise, but in the old days there was a system of checks and balances (see: people slapping Lucas upside the head) to tell him that something was a bad idea. Now these people who have grown up thinking Lucas and Spielberg are geniuses who have never had a bad idea in their life are helping to make the films, and have no ability to correct or speak out.
It is not LaBeouf's fault the last film was bad. It was just his fault his character was uninteresting and annoying.

he didnt do bad. he seems way to hard on himself. its more annoying than anything. the problem was the fricken aliens. its so cliched. first one: lost ark - a biblical thing, second one: voodoo; third one - holy grail; fourth one - frickin aliens!! there is nothing more overdone than aliens, plus the aliens they used were the most cliched aliens ever. i have no doubt number 4 would have been great if it wasnt for the aliens.

Nah it's more Lucas's fault if anyone's, but like it's been said before a lot of things contributed to its failure in the eyes of the fans, LaBeouf shouldn't blame himself so much

Dude, that argument doesn't work. It would be like Godzilla showing up at Minas Tirith. Would it be any more out there than magic and orcs? No, but it would still be incredibly stupid.

Finally, he admits it. His character was poorly penned, rediculous and sad. As with the Star Wars prequels I refuse to admit, acknowledge, or consider this...film as a Indiana Jones movie. Shame on Steven Spielberg and whatever dopey asshole he got to write this piece of crap.

I actually thought LaBeouf was one of the films more redeeming features. I blame Spielburg and Lucas for an awful plot and some truly terrible moments, the acting still remained supperb in my mind though.

You'd think that Indy would be a little less skeptical of aliens, considering the shit he's been through though. It doesn't help that it becomes obvious from almost the get go that the aliens are real. In previous films, we don't see the artifacts as having any magic powers for a good two thirds of the movie. We share Indy's skepticism because there is no evidence that the magic rocks or Jewish chest is going to do anything special. That's why it is meant to be a suprise when it does start kicking off (at least for Indy).

Crystal Skull would have probably been better if they had all the hints of the aliens early on, but then concluded with the twist that there were no aliens - just paranoid people chasing a wild goose.

It wasn't his fault. It was Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, and I stand by that forever!

Although he didn't exactly make the film better
my opinions exactly,

This instills a lot more respect in me for LeBouf than I had before though.
