Lack Of Nudity in Dragon Age Was Designer's Call

I would have preferred some tasteful nudity. As they were, I just felt embarrassed to watch the sex scenes.

I also find it strange that Morrigan puts a bra ON to have sex when she clearly wasn't wearing one before you get started.

I don't need porn in my games, but I am pretty happy that both my men & women can be gay. The next step in video game sex evolution is to aknowledge dominatrixes, because I'd get a kick out of seeing a hero willingly humiliate himself for a woman with a whip. Hahaha.

It's suggested in DA:O (choose the "surprise me" option in the Pearl- I don't think that hammer was for a tender massage, do you?)

Translation: We didn't want to be the next Hot Coffee incident

To be honest they probably would have been better off going with Fable's way of portraying sex. A black screen and random moaning noises, least it leaves something to the imagination.
Agree with the translation. As for fable, the West Country ascents where getting way too annoying for me, heh. I mean, really? Every single person in fable is from the West country?

Haven't actually had the opportunity to 'interact' on such a level in DA:O, but I hardly see what the need is to be prudish about a game that involves combat and murder.

I agree with the statement that the designers could learn plenty from cinema in order to show a romantic scene without it being gratuitous or graphic. An example would be how Bioware's Mass Effect team clearly learned from 80's action movies for the sex scene in ME, most notably Terminator (and Top Gun to a lesser extent).

Maybe its magic underwear in an age before contraceptives?
It must be pretty magic underwear since underwear as is in Dragon Age is pretty out of type for the fantastic time period.

Underwear only became common after the refinement of cotton manufacture in the industrial revolution. Earlier underwear would very rarely get washed (another reason to take it off during sex!).

The Dragon Age Toolset and/or the industrious modder community will most likely have quality nude mods for Dragon Age: Origins for those who really want it soon, if not already.

Damn! And I though I was going to see some CG boobs!

But seriously, it's ok if they didn't want the game to show nudity... although they should have avoided showing full bodies. The underwear completely ruins it.
Ya it did rather dull the whole affair for the wife and I. Basically we watch them for a childish snicker. I personally bothered with the relationships for the conversation before and afterward. Fun stuff.

I am so sick and tired of these phony "scandals" that crop up whenever someone feels offended by something that they can avoid at the flip of a switch! Stop watching! Read a book! Make sure you protect your own children from things that you find offensive by observing THEIR choice of games, THEIR internet use and THEIR social life! And for the love of GOD get some perspective: Looking at animated characters hugging while naked is NOT going to scar ANYONE for life!

edit: i know this thread was about the LACK of nudity but i needed to vent.

I think the 'clothed' sex scenes were put in because Bioware knew that modders could easily make new textures to make the characters nude, but couldn't do all the animations, etc. I fully expect and hope for those sex scenes to be made nude. Doesn't have to be full frontal, just nude. The game in it's totality is excellent in so many ways to make the world 'real'. This is what makes it immersive. The sex scenes are the opposite of this and are unreal.

It is easy enough to get real pornography in this internet age, so computer graphical nudity is neither here nor there. It's just about realism. To keep you in the world and the story.

In the same way as I argue for a nudity mod for the love scenes, I have argued against a mod that gives all the NPC's perfect white teeth. For me, it's all about making the world real enough to be immersed in. Isn't that what we want from our RPG's?

Since you mentioned the White Teeth mod I'm sure you already know - but there's already two nude mods been done. One for the (Dalish Elves questline) Lady of the Forest and another for the Desire demons.

Hey hey hey, if we don't show boobies, we certainly don't use hurtful words like "combat" or "murder". It's called "not-nice person interaction" or "aggressive negotiations". Now let's all go to the weapons store and buy some Persuasion Devices. I hear there's a sale on the pointy ones that are +10 vs elves and wussy game designers.....

@Amnestic Found DragonNexus, the one there (the other has been taken down by the author). It's not too good, and I am waiting for another better one to come along. Based on the 'lovemaking' movie you get, you still wouldn't see much, but it would still be 'real', like the rest of the game is trying so hard to be, with all the blood and beheadings, etc.,
