"unless Square Enix has a lot of poor spellers"

um...well hey, let's not be overestimating Square Enix, not these days!
I have a friend who is a HUUUGE fanboy so I'm quick to play Devil's Advocate and question if Square has ever been good since Square met Enix
but anyways...

"revamped combat system similar to the one seen in FFXII"

wait...how is that a good thing? I thought people hated-...naww let it be a joke haha

Even though I would love to see a FFVII remake, with the battle system of XII? No. I loved VII and XII was pretty good, but the battle system would not work in VII. Crisis Core's battle system could work if you only played as Cloud, but then that would still ruin it.

While the game is in need of a legitimate remake (looking bak at old visuals makes me think this is lego final fantasy) I still say the main and best reason to remake FFVII is to get people to shut up about remaking FFVII. After 5 years, I'm beyond tired of it.

Well, to be entirely honest I think they DID rule out the possibility at one point by saying that doing something like "Final Fantasy VII" again would be too expensive as the amount of content and the types of enviroments would be prohibitive with the new technology. They simply produced too much artwork and content comparitively speaking.

I remember this in connection to complaints about "Final Fantasy XIII" and why it was so linear, didn't have actual cities, and similar things. This of course leading to me pointing out that if this was true, then one could hardly call the current technology an improvement over the old stuff if it's impractical to do what the last generations were able to accomplish... irregardless of the reasons.

Now of course that could be BS, I'm still waiting to jump down Activision/Blizzard's throat because Blizzard claimed that the reason why they only released 1/3rd of Starcraft II as a complete game was because it would take them 14 years to develop three campaigns (or some obscene amount of time like that, the article was here on The Escapist, can't remember the title). So basically if we see another campaign for "Starcraft 2" in the next few years I'm going to be ready to jump right down their throat.... not that it will matter much in the big picture.

I hope that it's fake. Call me a raging fanboy if you must but if they do remake it, I want them to remake it on a proper home console, not on a handheld. It's like Big Boss' MGS games, I have no interest in playing them on the PSP.

I'd rather they didn't remake it at all if it was going to be for a handheld.
Wait, a HANDHELD!? Why the hell would they remake one of the most popular games of all time and release it as a little memorabilia that you stick in your pocket!? (To clarify, I don't dislike handhelds or their games, but it seems like this has a bit more potential)

I'm more worried that if they release it, no fans of the original will be satisfied by how it turns out because it'll have lost its nostalgic value from new graphics or something...

Personally, I'm a fan of XII's system. Sure it had it's shortcomings, but I like it more than turn-based. I quoted not to argue. Instead I just wanted to point out something much worse. The letter said XIII's combat system. That would be a horrendous idea.

Do we really need a remake? Can't they just like..Start making the FF games good again?
Back to the open world, the complex and innovative plots, and oh..I don't know..getting to control all your party members in combat?
Here, have this flame shield-

Some people here don't like it when you praise FF. Even the old ones. Someone's probably going to quote you on calling the plots complex and innovative and be like "herp waht do you mean back to complex plots they never had them derp ffhatebandwagon".

Just sayin'.

OT: Squeenix needs to just make up their minds and tell us if it's ever happening. Then we can either fangasm for the next few decades while it's in development hell or get over it.
First off sweet pic, second yeah basically whenever you praise any series people are going to make fun of you for it and call you a fanboy no matter good or bad the series may actually be.

OT: I will buy a freaking PS3 if they re-realease a new FF7 for it, you have no idea how many hours I spent playing that game when I was young. Who here honstly wouldn't want to see the Gold Saucer Chocabo race (can't spell that right) done with modern graphics? Can you even imagine what the hell Omnislash would look like too? That being said I never get my hopes up when something like this happens, when I see some high quality screens or video then maybe I'll belive it.

i know you guys say they should just move on and all, but i guess with my money, i have never bought a new final fantasy game after 7, and the only way i would ever do so is if they made a remake of 7

but that's just me and my measly $60

Agreed.

As for this 'remake', I hope it's a hoax, as those updated features sound god-awful, like the one above. However, I DO still want a remake...just a proper one.

From what I've gathered, we just want updated graphics. Hell, leave out voices, keep the old music. With what you're capable of nowadays Square, you could make the game truly beautiful, and maybe attract those who were put off by the 'lego-people.' Forget even if it's not for the fans, it's a wonderful business maneuver. The thing would print money!!!

Get that director who is ruining every game you put out, tell him to stop being butthurt about how people like 14-year-old games better than his craptacular sequels.

ALSO: I just realized how dumb some people can be for being put off by the lego graphics. Seriously. I've seen this complaint on The Escapist about FF7 more than anything else about the game, and yet somehow, Minecraft won March Madness, with the simple graphics being a positive note.

/fanboy rant

Well, Nomura has repeatedly said that the Compilation is not finished yet. I'd rather they repolish the game that established the mythos rather than adding more and more crap onto it. Asides from a graphical update, the game could go for faster ATB and rebalancing among party members. Vincent and Yuffie's recruitment would have to become mandatory somehow. I dunno - I honestly think they could do well if they worked on it enough.
why make the recruitment mandatory?

just because its not cannon doesnt mean they cant include the cut optional quest to revive aries/aerith (whatever her name is) and give it the two possible endings the original game was intended to have Im just saying.
Source?
I'm pretty fucking certain that there was NEVER a quest to bring Aeris back, it would have completely ruined the impact that that scene had.
I'm behind that dashingly handsome lobster-man. NEVER do you have the option of bringing Aerith/Aeris back. Not without a Gameshark. The only time you get to see her after she dies is cutscenes about remembering her, or when you go back to the church in Sector 7 and see her ghost real quick...that part was kinda creepy...especially with the dead silence...

Nice "question" there. I do agree with you though. I fail to see any need for a FF VII remake except in the minds of the rabid fanboys/girls. Also, read the fake email people, do you really think it's real?

all i want from a remake is a graphics upgrade, even the locked camera works (and saves them a ton, dont go telling my its too hard for them to do when they spit FFXIII out)

Would rather see a full 3d remake of Chrono Trigger for PS3/360. Still SE's finest hour in my opinion.

Also I don't get the hatred behind 12's combat system except for the bizarrely handled limit breaks.

all FF7 remake needs is
1 HD graphics
2 HD sound (not voice acting just better sounding music not the keyboard stuff)

done.
then do the same for 8/9/10 and looky Squeenix made a lot of money. there missing the chance for easy Cash.

Don't need to update anything else. That way its still the game I enjoyed when I was smaller.

Agreed. I lost interest when the gameplay changed. Also, re-making this game on a handheld unavailable for those who bought the damn PS3 is a crime against man.

Only really played FFX. Loved it. Everything I've seen/heard about newer FF games leads me to believe that the series has gone doooooown hill. I see three options for Square Enix:

1. Stop making Final Fantasy games. There have been plenty. Make some other games.

2. Remake successful games. The fans are demanding it, why not?

3. Break the standard FF format. No token stereotypes. Make something that people who are not fanboys will enjoy.

I'm so tempted to throw myself into an alternate universe where I am the head executive of a major game company so I can make a JRPG that kicks more ass than any JRPG has ever before.

There was never any option to save Aerith in the game, nor was there ever suppose to be. Just wishful thinking from fans back in the day. Kinda like this. As for your other question, if we DO get a improved FFVII, then having them become mandatory would allow SE to put Yuffie and Vincent in all the FMV's the missed them in the original game. Even if we get basic port, we're gonna get updated FMV's like with PS1's Anthology FF's.
