Lavayen Versus Theistic Satanism

I've met quite a few Lavayen Satanists, quite a few. Each of them adheres to the founding principle that theistic Satanism is just reverse Christianity, and with good reason. To worship the antithesis of the Christian god is to count yourself amongst that pantheon.

I've met many Theistic Satanists who were full of crap, wore black all the time and were rebelling against society in an attempt to appear cool to other sissy goth and emo attention craving whores. But I've met several wise theistic satanists who had lovely and well crafted if not decimating counter-arguments to those of their atheist counterweight by the same name.

While I'm not a Satanist, I'm a Norse pagan who has adoring ties to it because of my unhealthy obsession with occult metal, I can't help but ask why you call yourselves Satanists, a name taken from the Christian pantheon, and thrash those who actively worship the Christian embodiment of petulance and evil as if you weren't attempting to play off that image in the first place.

As a pagan I of course do believe in gods and do not deny others theirs, Yah-Weh or Jehova or Ichabod Crane or whoever the hell he is and whoever his eternal, profoundly dark and frightening adversary may be are really none of my business. I'm more inclined however to agree with the Theistic satanists who claim that their one god is a wise and cunning creator and that Christianity just has it all mixed too heavy in one direction. The Theistic Satanists I have met (http://www.joyofsatan.com) argue that all gods are Satans children, not his minions, and that Satan is benevolent but not foolish and not forgiving nor encouraging of the foolish and forgiving. While I look at Lavayen Satanists who worship themselves and behave primly on a foundation of "Do what you wish, but be smart about it."

I truly cannot see the difference.

While I'm not a Satanist myself( I'm an atheist) there are things that I agree with the Lavayen Satanists such as independence and placing faith in ourselvels instead of some ambiguous gods and creatures that may or may not exist

i think most satanists that i've met over the years are pretty funny and actually have less of a clue about things that christians do and that's pretty hard to top

personally i think that the satanism is a bit of a joke, i mean i can pay $50 and become a minister if i want to be and then there's the whole thing surrounding the hiding of Anton Levay's death so they could say he died on Hallowe'en, which isn't even a christian holiday

Satanism is for wusses. There is only one god worthy of my worship, and he is neither kind, nor cruel, nor malevolent, nor benevolent. He is simply power.

"For in the beginning, there was only Chaos, and from him sprang all else."

Really, Theistic Satanism is retarded to me.
So you believe in the all-powerful God, do ya?
And you worship his child, who is clearly inferior and was thrown out of heaven, do ya?

No sense at all.

I'm agreeing with this, if you believe that there's a god that will offer you eternal peace and bliss and a devil that will damn you for all enterinity. Then why the hell are you worshipping the evil bad guy?

Lavayen Satanists are like a club of atheists. The reason why they perform rituals and call themselves Satanists is just to give it some authenticity. And I have to admit I'm actually attracted to it. In this way I would have an excuse to come together with friends on Sundays.

The reason why I won't join is because most people won't take me serious any more in debates about religion. Or in the worst case some people would take it serious and that's where the problems kick in.

Is there really no one here who is a Satanist?

I believe the thinking goes: God forgives you any crime as soon as you say "I'm sorry", whereas Satan is a bit of a bastard and quite a tough guy to please. So the Satanists worship Satan just in case they get sent to hell, in which case they might have an easier time.

I don't read in the first post what Lavayen Satanism is like. How am I supposed to contribute?

Oh wait, they're both nonsense if you ask me.
There :)

I've read most of the first book of the Satanic Bible, and it has some very good ideas. I don't consider myself a LeVayan Satanist, as I don't agree with it completely.
What pisses me off is where some little angsty kid decides he's Satanic, because no one likes him and he thinks it's deep or something.

I don't believe in Christianity at all, but when I hear the story of how Satan got cast down I actually sympathize with him somewhat. He's the rebel character going against the all-powerful ruler who then casts him into a pit of fire and torture for his treason. When I lay it out in my head as a work of fiction (which I, personally, believe it to be- but to every person their own), it just seems like the rebel character is the more sympathetic one.

As for Satanists though, I find their philosophies selfish and corrupt. I do not like them very much, although, as I said before- to every person their own.

In rebelling against God he rebelled against All that was good. It's like hating a pleasant smelling rose and demanding the rancor of feces. That's truly what it's like. He rebelled not against a wrongdoing, but against something that was Almighty and Right.

On a related note, Anton Levay's final words were regretful on his deathbed. He died seeing the other side and was even quoted as saying "What have I done...?". "Something is wrong...no...no...what?"

Truth.

There is a small subset of Catholics who believe that the very worst sinners end up as demons and pretty much run around possessing the living and having fun that way. Maybe some Satanists hold the same belief?

Sorry for going a bit off-topic, but you're the first person I've encountered who claims to be pagan and actually believes in pagan gods (as opposed to agnostics/atheists who claim paganism because they consider it edgy or whatever, which seems to be the general trend). Are there a lot of the likes of you?

History is decided by the victor. Looking at it in political terms, it would make since that sense the devil lost, he would be portrayed as evil and god as good. I suppose human politics don't necessarily apply to deities.

I never saw the point of LaVeyan satanism, it just seems to say that you can do what you want so long as you pay your membership fee. I don't know anything about theistic satanism though.

I call myself a Satanist, but I should really stop. I don't really know what I believe.

OT: I agree. I've met a few other Satanists (One Theistic, Two Laveyan) and none of them had good reasons of becoming them for any reason other than "Look guys, I'm a Satanist, Pay Attention to me!"

I don't get why the Lavayens call themselves Satanist either, it just gives them a bad rap

Also, as a non-practicing Roman Catholic, the idea of anything with connotations to Satanism doesn't repulse me...but it makes me ponder a fifty-fifty balance of "That's idiotic, why would anyone do that?" and "I bet they're all just teenagers and people with mental illnesses who want to rebel against society"

I just really, really don't get Satanism. It's like a monotheistic teenage rebel against whatever the parents do
